lmao "its fine to take offense at something" as if it was a choice to begin with? i think you can withhold a lame joke or two if it means someone won't feel bad about themselves. honestly what logic

Honestly, I think the title kind of sets up the answer.

For example, I would have worded it "Offensive humor - stupid or ok?" But that's just me.

But hey - that's the glory of humor right? You can make whatever jokes you want, and laugh at whatever jokes you want. Doesn't mean I have to, and doesn't mean I have to like you for it.

"Remember it's just a joke and not an insult" seems a little too generous though. I've heard quite a few jokes that seem to blur the line. but that's just my experience.

As a side note - i'm personally more impressed with comedians who manage to be funny without offensive jokes, much like i'm impressed with movies that manage to have a good story without excessive sex and gore. I don't think such movies or jokes are "inherently better" or anything. I just personally appreciate them more. But again, that's jsut me.

Like seriously I am easygoing usually, but chill the fuck out. You take this Captain Crusader BS a little too serious and you stalk out my posts waiting for me to say something that might make you angry.

honestly it really isn't your place to tell someone what they should and shouldn't be offended by

I'm not telling anyone anything, hence the question mark in the title. Also, your avatar is Lana Del Rey as Virgin Mary. Surely that offends no one, right?

II'm not here to offend people, I don't even care. If someone feels a joke is offensive that's their right, but chances are they are overreacting to something that should only be a joke.

the virgin mary thing is a reach honestly but if it's offensive to someone i'd take it down no problem lmao. you post threads and in return you should expect posts responding to such. if you think i sit here everyday waiting for you to make a thread so i can drag you then you need to get over yourself lmfao you're not that important. if you don't want any responses then perhaps think twice before posting. the only person getting worked up over here is you hahahaha

I mean I find most jokes funny and even if I dislike one or in a rare chance I am offended, I just say meh. NO biggie.

You could make a skit about someone with 22 nipples and someone somewhere in the world is going to get offended by it.

Am i exaggerating or are you obsessed with nipples?

I see through the shtick here. You clearly don't give a crap about any of this. Don't even pretend. You're being about as serious as my original post is.

I don't get offended by jokes or I haven't yet, but I don't see why someone shouldn't have the right to be offended if they or something they're related to are getting made fun of. What they do about it though, I can't defend all of that.

But an anorexia joke at 11 years old? lol Has to be influenced by Family Guy or something cuz that's no kid joke.

Make jokes about whatever you want. Whoever has problems with it are the people with the problem and as they are responsible for themselves, they have to take care of themselves and get over themselves; it's not your place to interfere with that process by adjusting your jokes, in fact, it's infantilizing them. So, don't be condescenting, make the utmost offensive jokes you feel comfortable with and let everyone sort themselves out.

I never said you choose to be offended. I think you should expect to be offended at some point, and respond appropriately.

My point is that trying to silence free speech because you find it offensive is not acceptable.

free speech means the government can't legally enforce censorship on you. it doesn't mean people can't tell you to shut the fuck up

Of course people can tell you to shut up. That's not the same as calling for censorship - as in suggesting the government should legally censor something just because you don't like it's content.
