I prefer wood. It's easier to clean and looks better than carpet in my opinion. But the disadvantage to quality hardwood flooring is the cost. I think the carpet in our 3200 a

Carpet for laying on, wood for convenience's sake when it comes to spills. So like, carpet in a bedroom, but wood in a living room, because for me at least, the living room is where everyone eats food.

Wood is so much better. Carpet gets dirty to fast and is a pain to deal with.

Hard flooring has a definite advantage when it comes to cleaning and appearance.. However, I don't like wearing shoes or slippers indoors and carpet definitely wins in terms of comfort, especially in winter.

I also prefer the acoustics of rooms that are carpeted. Larger rooms with hard flooring tend to have an annoying echo unless you place a lot of furniture.

Overall, I suppose I prefer carpeting - by a thread.

Wood in a temperate or cold climate and tiles to keep cool in a tropical climate, never carpets they don't work well if you've got hayfever and asthma and take a lot of maintenance. I like walking around barefoot at home but will resort to socks or even bedroom slippers on the coldest winter days. Mild winter days I'll still go around barefoot. Maybe one day if I move I'll be able to get a place with underfloor central heating then I can ditch the socks/slippers in winter.
