Okay, this is a question I've been wondering for a long time. Anyone with a 3rd grade education in the United States knows that the President doesn't make laws or decides that the country should go to war. These are things done by Congress. The President has the power to veto a bill, but if it gets overruled, that's because Congress overruled it.

So when controversial events occur in the USA why do people automatically blame the president? He's only a figurehead of the country, with little power compared to Congress. People saying "Obama is the worst president" or "Bush is the worst president", why do you say that? Even if you didn't vote for that particular president, how is that president the worst? What did they do? Why don't you blame Congress?

I get some of it is satirical (like the "Thanks Obama" or "Bush did 9/11"), but when people genuinely say it, I wonder why.
Does anyone have an answer?

I have to agree with the ignorance and I'm an American citizen. I totally echo your statement and encourage people to watch who they put in congress. However, there are some loop holes that you only find if you look hard. Like the war thing. The president can send troops without declaring war because he's commaner in chief. That was Vietnam.

'After the Vietnam War, the War Powers Resolution of 1973 was passed as an effort to limit the President's power. However, the bill actually increased the President's ability to use the military in a variety of situations without asking for Congressional approval.

According to the War Powers Resolution, the President must notify Congress within 48 hours of sending military forces into action. Armed forces can stay engaged for no more than 60 days, with an additional 30 day withdrawal period unless there is a formal Congressional authorization of military force or a declaration of war.'

It gets complicated.

It's not my problem, and it shouldn't be yours either.

Everyone when it comes to politics needs a scapegoat and he just so happens to be that scapegoat when a lot of things like it was said earlier are done through congress.

Well they propose bills so they should receive some blame but so should congress. When i say Bush and Obama are "bad" im referring mainly to their foreign policy affairs.

"Sometimes people say really stupid things and inject themselves into something that they don't belong on. But yes, the President has always been used as a whipping boy."

This actually makes one reason I'd like Trump in office. (badum tsss)

I don't actually blame the President. I just blame all the past presidents for adding so much junk to the US government like regulations and red tape and Congress and stuff...srsrly Congress doesn't even do anything they're just people backed by companies that only accept bills that benefit their companies. Ever hear of PACs? Aka legal corruption...I didn't know anything about anything about the real US until I read Fast Food Nation for high school and then after that I would never trust anything ever again...or buy Swift meat :P

So ya. It's not OUR president's fault. It's the past ones' fault for putting us in debt and for being the "police" of the world.
