What do you think is the difference between refusing being "a slave to society" or just being plain stupid about it?
Posted 8/2/15
A lot of you must hear about some crazy person doing something (most likely online) where they feel the need to do certain things in order to tell/show people that they won't follow societies expectations of them.

Like women not shaving their arm pits or men whipping their man junk out in public(?).
Those are stupid. I feel if you wanna sorta rebel against society, its not a good idea to really try to publicize it.
People who do that seem to do it purely out of spite.

I think what you should do is just not let people tell you what to do, what to be like, or what you should do, really. And not out of spite, just simply because you don't want to.

It's call being young, you make so many damn mistakes you won't have a single regret left when you grow old.

Being a slave to society:
- Following all stereotypes even if they don't agree with them
- Never questioning anything that happens (if it affects you in a negative way or if you don't agree with it)
Being Stupid:
- trying to act superior by trying to be different
- Doing dumb things to be different (second thing anzn mentioned)
- Following trends that are supposed to be "rebellious"

Because people want to be different, even though they are basically just joining a different group :/

Well the difference is that do you even have evidence to back it up and do you actually sound smart about it and do you have a legit reason to talk smack about the way things are run or are you just whining like that CSGO 12-year old that complains about hackers just because he dies. Being a slave to society is just being too plain gullible and not asking questions while being stupid is asking TOO MANY QUESTIONS.

Anyways...
Slave:
-Not looking up anything and just assuming that society is right
-Instantly dis...whatevering anything that talks about conspiracies (aka the loyal citizen)
-Being gullible to everything the "person in charge" says

Stupid:
-Screams on the street about conspiracies (stupid ones) with no evidence
-Blogs about everything, even stupid conspiracies (aka the kid that posts OMG ILLUMINATI videos)
-Wears a shirt or something that says it (srsly there's something called a report or a petition, use it)

Many people rebel against society because they can't compete at the level they'd like to ,or think they should, within it.So it's a lot easier and palatable to portray the rebel citing moral objections and reject society rather than to admit failure and defeat.

Refusing to be a slave is complaining about society.

-Being stupid about it is acting upon those complaints.

There's a difference between being extremist about not conforming to society's standards vs being an extremist about conforming to society's standards. Me, I personally do whatever the hell I want and think whatever the hell I want while still remaining in legal boundaries because I really can't stand extremism. I am a tree, I am a left leaning moderate, I have a lot of superior and inferior aspects, I don't think I have to pick one type of person to be or another to prove myself, I am just me. A free thinker.

I always just did whatever the heck I wanted and
in general, I don't care what everyone does because
I'm me and that's just who I am.. I don't really worry
about all that extremist crap.

Everyone says they do "whatever the hell they want." When in reality, you're not really doing whatever the hell you want.

You may want to do that. You may want to be completely uninhibited, but under society is deep, deep, deep layers of structure and nuance that is impossible to break. You're not doing whatever you want. Sure you can pick what food to eat, hobbies to have, jobs, etc. Sure. But you can't throw caution to the wind entirely and become a sovereign soul walking the streets free as can be.

If you aren't an untouchable in India or live under a dictatorship, I don't see how someone could be a slave to society. You could always "Chris McCandless" your way out of your "shackles".
