I've had this problem ever since I signed up and it's really starting to get annoying. I'll start watching something and then for no reason the video will just stop playing and the only way to fix it is to refresh the page, then wait for it all to load. I've tried updating flash and nothing. It's not a problem with my internet because I watch netflix at 1080p all the time with no problems. I'm on google chrome.

Anybody else figure out how to fix this?

Are you pausing the video and walking away? If so, that's the reason for the video freezing.

Is the video stopping in the exact same timecode every time? Try clearing your Flash cache, and play the episode at different resolutions.

I have the same issue. I sent an email to support outlining what I've done, and received a response basically telling me to try what I've already done. My issue comes from using CR only on PC, their apps for some reason do not have the same issue. My thoughts are that it's because of flash player, but if their apps are using flash I'm not sure what the difference is.

**Edit** To basically summarize the issue, the video freezes/pauses during playback CONSTANTLY. It use to be bad, but recently it's just been unbearable. Such as Moj0Risin pointed out, a solution that USE to work for me was navigating back about 2-5 seconds in the anime that would cause the video to rebuffer. Now the only options are to either a) refresh the page or b) push the button over the current video setting you're using to cause the video to refresh. I've tried streaming in lower quality too for the sake of the issue, but that also didn't make a difference.

Anyways, here's what I've done:

1. I have a SMB firewall, so I disabled DPI and AV scans on CR traffic (not applicable to most people, my thoughts were that my firewall was causing the issue)
2. Updated my DNS settings to use Google public and OpenDNS for the most reliable/up-to-date queries
3. Tested various browsers, IE/Firefox/Chrome. IE/Chrome now have integrated flash players, installed the local flash player for Firefox and still had the same issue.
4. Tested from multiple PCs with different setups (windows 7/8 and 10)
5. Tested over WLAN/LAN thinking my AP was causing the issue, didn't make a difference.
6. Reboot my equipment (firewall, modem, pc, switch, etc.)

Here's the official response I got back that maybe you may find something useful to help your situation.

Hi there,

Thanks so much for emailing in. We understand how frustrating it can be not being able to watch your anime. There are two areas that can have issue; getting the app set and getting to the right servers.

---Getting the app all set:

If you are on an app device:
On your device clear your cache and delete the app data before uninstalling and reinstalling the Crunchyroll app.

If you are on a computer using a browser:
Disable any browser extensions. Try more than one browser.
Make sure you have the latest Java and Flash.
Right click on the Flash Player and try toggling 'Video Smoothing' and 'Subtitle Smoothing'.
Make sure Hardware Acceleration is enabled and that you have updated Local Storage to Unlimited.
If you are using Chrome, this has been moved to chrome://settings/search#hardware. Make sure that you have the box checked for 'Use hardware acceleration when available'.

---Getting to the right servers:

Because the servers for various devices are all located in different parts of the country sometimes it's a matter of pointing to the right DNS server.
So let's see if changing your router's DNS will help. You’ll find complete instructions on how to change your DNS by using OpenDNS.com's all-encompassing guide (https://store.opendns.com/setup). I'd try this first, as their servers are only in the USA and Europe. If this doesn't seem to help, you can try Google's Public DNS (https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns).

This DNS change seems to work well with ongoing video problems.

Between these two areas, you should be all set.

Let me know how this works for you!

Regards,

I appreciate the suggestions and not being rude in what I am going to say ! BTW I went to a friend place who has extreme internet and the site gave me problems too !

But this is what gets me / a lot of people always blame us for the problems ( CR doesnt say anything at all which is good or bad )

The website wiil work somewhat fine other times! I can go to other sites with no problems !

But the freezing is ongoing ! / I can watch You Tube / Funimation etc with no problems !! So what is so diifferent / difficult here ? I should not have to be Software enigineer to do all kind of tweaks just for one site really The S.O. P 's should suffice !

People if the problem was us IT WOULD BE ALL THE TIME !!

It's not just a matter of if the problem is on CR's end, or the user's end. There are many components that exist between CR, it's content delivery networks, and end devices, and the issue's root cause can be at any one or many points across the network.

Try re-downloading Adobe Flashplayer if everything else doesn't work.
