Steven Universe is an animated tv show created by Rebecca Sugar for Cartoon Network. There is also an rpg available on mobile devices that's pretty fun. It's one of my favorite shows by far, with clear inspirations from anime and pop culture and canon queer characters! Any other fans?

I just started watching it... it's not "bad" but I hear it gets better as time goes on. I mean, the character I only really like thus far, being on like episode 3, is Amethyst, I like her tude.

As for queer characters?? what?? the gems aren't human, how can they even be.... whatever. I don't wanna have to explain this for the thousandth time? I don't think there's anything wrong with saying they are genderless because they are, technically, but i don't see what is so queer about this show thus far, besides what the FANDOM says is queer, and we all know gender and sexuality headcanons aren't legit canon.

I mean, the only think I can think abt that i've heard of is that there are canon lesbians, right? That's abt it.

The show has a slow start, but it is rewarding to follow through. Characters are surprisingly complex for a kid's show. I do think that there are some episodes that are sort of pointless, but the good ones make up for it.

My understanding is that the term sometimes refers to people who do not identify as Heterosexual. So it was most likely the same sex relationships that the OP was referring to.

Well, that makes more sense, thank you for the clarification.
I think it's nice to see a western cartoon that has canon lesbians, actually. Or bisexuals. Who knows how the gems really identify it. And one targeted more at a younger audience too.

My favorite character is Amethyst she reminds me a lot of my baby sister who is 15 a free spirited wild child who tries to play tough but hides how she really feels but personally my favorite cartoon network show is Amazing World of Gumball because of its crazy yet funniness and in some aspects a person can relate to having that type of family that is dysfunctional yet loving.

I really don't understand the hype about it. Yeah, I understand that it's a cartoon series and doesn't even belong in the same category as an anime, but I feel like I outgrew cartoon series like this 9 years ago.

Since a bunch of my uni friends like it, I'll continue to watch, there are some good bits here and there.

I love the BGM most of all. The artist who creates their music also does Animal Crossing remixes on SoundCloud.

Recently, I read the first few issues of Kaboom's official Steven Universe comics. Not bad, though they seemed like filler episodes. Since the comics are a spinoff, the writers probably could not influence canon events. In other words, I don't think the comic writers were allowed to introduce new characters, advance the plot, or cause any significant changes. I'm hoping that eventually the comic will let the characters go on a multi-issue adventure.

I should make time for watching the TV show. After all, it's reasonably cheap on iTunes...

I like that it allows itself to funny when it can be and serious when it needs to be

The comparison I've heard about it to Adventure Time (put away the torches and pitchforks I like that show too) is that Adventure Time will introduce interesting plots but then throw them out right away in exchange for another comedic episode. Heck one season ended with the main princess being de-aged but they never did ANYTHING with that.

Steven Universe on the other hand ended the first season with a serious plot which has been playing a part in every episode of the next season thus far.

I do really like the characters, Amethyst is hilarious, Garnet is just plain awesome and Pearl has her moments too (though she is my least favorite of the Crystal gems)

In short the show is for sure one that has gotten better and I'm glad to see a cartoon that doesn't have its existence hinging on whether or not they sell toys. (Young Justice, Sym-Bionic Titan.... we shall never forget thee)
