(not sure if this is in wrong place, please lock/move if it's wrong. Thanks.)

Kay guys, so I've been recently reading a lot of light novels (they're worded AS well or maybe better than regular American novels) and many novels/manga have an anime attached that is basically the same thing. But some people have been saying that the anime skips out a lot of stuff and you should read the original first and others say that the anime is a better adaptation but what do you guys think? cause I'm currently reading Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei (The Irregularity at Magic High School) and I think the ln's great but I don't wanna watch the anime yet (spoils obviously) so...thanks for taking the time to answer my question.

An anime will almost always skip some stuff for its source material. The important part is if the skipped parts are important or not to the story.
I was a bit annoyed at the anime's SAO Aincrad arc because they left out some important parts of the LN and at points completely changed the story.

LNs also have quite a bit of internal dialogue, especially for Maohuka. It's a bit hard to animate internal dialogue without making the anime boring. I found SAO's GGO arc to be a very good adaptation but a lot of people who didn't read the LNs would beg to differ.

I personally think that a LN presents the story better, but an anime is more entertaining because it is animated.

manga > anime

light novels are hard to come by (the ones i like anyway) so anime > light novels

Watching over reading in most cases, at first, but I'll sometimes read the novel as I go if the LN is translated. Which a lot aren't, sadly.

The way I would want it would be light novels first then anime then manga. The way I see most companies release stuff is anime first then manga then light novels.

Basically ever adaptation changes/skips things, I usually don't mind it. I just don't like the reviews (rants) about how the anime is a horrible adaptation and then they don't really talk about the anime itself, all I care about is whether the anime it is good or not.

I read manga 99% of the time. Anime can sometimes miss some stuff from the manga and there's the horrible fillers.
