Why are kids so blunt?
Posted 8/3/15 , edited 8/4/15
Kids are so fucking blunt like...how do they get away with that especially if they're mean...

A few years ago a kid asked me if I have a boyfriend and I said no and he said "Is it because ur ugly and fat and only play video games all day?"

Like, damn??

Not even I was that blunt when I was younger.

Because they're never taught not to be.

They aren't disciplined when they do something wrong, any physical contact and now child services are involved. School teachers can't touch them, they have the teachers by the neck.

Many years ago, someone thought, maybe slapping kids, hitting them, etc is cruel, so maybe we shouldn't. Little did they know, they while a noble goal, they really didn't think ahead, they didn't have a game plan to teach kids how to behave properly. From one extreme to another.

Kids aren't taught respect, courtesy, or how to behave many times now. They're insensitive because no one really taught them why it is wrong and how they should behave.

Maybe the fact that its frowned upon and in some cases illegal to smack your kids these days?
Lack of discipline, kids have too many rights, they know they cant be touched.

Uh... I'm fat and ugly and I have someone.... If I played video games, honey, it'd be a fucking BONUS...

Ignore the kid. LOL. I'm serious.

Manners is something that needs to be taught. People are not born with a filter on their thoughts. Discipline does not equal spanking children. It seems that child's parents or guardian haven't been teaching that child anything about good social interaction. Some parents also think this is cute and don't correct the child so by the time the child is school age this pattern is set.

There is nothing wrong in children having rights after all they are people too. As it is too many end up being neglected and or abused or even killed just because some parents or other adults around them refuse to see them as people. Being spoilt is another thing.

No, it's true. My siblings are absolutely blunt and have a don't-give-a-fuck mentality all the time.

Kids are mean. As for me, I've always been hella sarcastic, so the bluntness *usually* doesn't bother me. Usually.

A lot of countries around the world are much more bluntly honest. I like those countries. I wont laugh at a joke if it wasn't funny. I will speak the truth if I see something wrong. I wont sugar coat it.

"Oh, you broke my $2,000 laptop, but its okay! I was going to get a new one anyway!" Na... not my forte.

I can actually list about 30ish countries that are just bluntly honest. You would get nowhere there by sugar-coating stuff. The nice thing about being bluntly honest, you get sought out for advice on matters. You will be expected to really say your mind instead of sugar coating it to not hurt their feelings.

Ex) "So.. I may have been drunk and slept with another girl.." Well man, you fucked up. Better tell your girlfriend.
People I have met would say "Well, it wasn't on purpose, you were drunk and didn't know better. It will be fine." I don't see the merit in this.

Edit:

If you really want to hear the truth, ask a German. If you ask an American, “Does this shirt/dress look good on me?” you’ll usually get a polite reply, even if the person thinks it’s the ugliest thing he/she has ever seen. Ask a German the same question and you’ll get an honest, blunt opinion – positive or negative. Germans tend to be direct and to the point. They consider small talk and over-politeness a waste of time. Americans often mistake German frankness for rudeness.

Germans are not open books. They can initially come off as a little humorless and somewhat suspicious, particularly to overly gregarious Americans...

I can say US is one of the rarer countries that sugarcoat everything. Most of Europe, especially northern Europe is very blunt.

Abrupt and often disconcertingly frank in speech: "People [in the Western US] are blunt with one another, sometimes even cruel, believing honesty is stronger medicine than sympathy" (Gretel Ehrlich).

In general its more of a lack of social skills at that age that kids just dont understand that being blunt can hurt a persons feelings or the likes. While i'm guessing it was more about being a prick to you than just being blunt.

Because they are fucking savages.

It's true for me, except the fat part.

That's why I hate kids, they have no sense of shame or awareness of consequences.

But sometimes they make me happy, honesty is a double edged sword, like today a 2year old kid just gave me an air blow kiss... I was shocked.... I sisnt know little kids know how to do air kisses lol.... Made me feel like maybe am not so ugly after all.

Lol some people are reading too much into this. They're curious and say what's on their mind, because they're kids lolol
They want to know everything and they say what they observe.
Some of it's messed up and sometimes it's really funny. At the end of the day, kid vision is just another verison of beer goggles.

I agree too much these little kids get away with a lot of things because they know if they are touched they can holler abuse I'm not saying there aren't any kids out there under abusive parents because I am fully against that witnessing a friend go through that and all know is if I did anything wrong when I was younger, I got a whooping with either a belt or I was made to go out and get a thorny branch called a switch. And out of all 5 of my mom's kids I probably got the most whoopings but I turned out ok as you can see.

There's a difference between blunt and just rude, but kids these days just suck. We need to allow the punishment of branding them with a cattle iron when they step out of line.
