What I wonder is what elements would still be functional in space? I mean earth would work if you were around objects and fire could work maybe if near a star? Water and air would be completely useless though. Does air work under water and does water work without access to any visible pools of water or can one draw from the any humidity at all. Does fire need a source?

Sorry I haven't watched the show so I don't know this stuff.

I guess eathbending and maybe fire bending would be the only ones you could use in space. There's no air or water so you can't bend them. For all bending you need access to the element,I'm not sure about fire though I forgot. That would be sweet to see bending in space though..or spacebending?!?

fire is a result of combustion reaction, and requires oxygen and a gas like propane or methane
in space, there is hardly an amount required for a combustion to occur
earth bending might be possible if you're lucky to be near a comet or something. doesn't work if there's only dust.

Neat. So can a water bender bend water vapour? Clouds? Fog? Ice? Any little bit of moisture? Blood? .-.

Either way I'd totally be water.

Even though it may not have the most potential, fire is really the only option.

The winter where I'm from makes firebending very appealing. Though Fire is really energy, so If I could pull the energy out of an object I could probably manage ice too.

Earth. It strikes me as one of the the most practical powers. I could build a stone house and camp anywhere. Could build myself a stone castle or an underground party bunker whenever I want to beat the heat. I could even use the power to build long-lasting shelters for impoverished people. Metalbending has obvious applications...I could forge knives and stuff without using so much heat and time. I could make my own waterstones and use my powers while sharpening to get a really polished edge very quickly, without wearing down my stones as much. Maybe sharpen without even needing to buy waterstones. I could also use the power to do some mining and save those corporations a lot of headaches while reducing the danger involved. This would probably mean high pay and I can take the precious metals and gems for myself. Could probably also do some demolition work without using explosives. Just turn the concrete into small particles.

Sandbending would be great fun in the desert. Like surfing on the dunes. Seismic sense would also be pretty sick. I could be a guide on some mountain journey and I'd know exactly what part of the ground is safe to step on. And if we fall, I can just bend the ground into a platform and use it like an escalator all the way up.

And if I have to destroy something and smashing giant blocks on it isn't enough....there's lavabending.
