I've been wondering if we make our own destiny or if it's already made for us....

I also want to make an art piece relating to this sort of topic but it's been hard trying to come up with an idea

The answer to this question is pretty dependent upon economic, cultural, structural, medical, and countless other aspects of someone's personal circumstances. Basically, not everyone has equal control over the course of their lives. For some people ascent to the heights of economic, political, social, or other sorts of power comes naturally. Others struggle twice as hard and end up eating dirt.

I don't believe in destiny as much as, everything is predetermined like falling dominoes. Quantum physics could counter that, but we don't know enough about it for me to believe that it is totally random.

The question doesn't matter.
If you refuse to act, the world still will.
If there are no opportunities, you have to use what's at your disposal.

The best thing you can do is have skill, knowledge, and networking abilities.

Think of it like this, a farmer can make their own food, and divert water to drink. Another farmer might not have the land, but nearby are trees, so he uses that to make furniture and houses, then trades those for food. Perhaps he didn't know how to at first either, and asked the first farmer for food while he figured out how to make furniture.

So whether or not you really have any control over the future, all you can do is try to make that furniture, and hope the farmer wants to trade his food and water. You have control of yourself at least.

And if you don't, at least you can act like you do.

There are things you can't avoid in life, like the fact that you were born, that you will age, that you will someday die. But other things result from choices that you make. You might be able to make some choices, but you can't escape their consequences.

I don't think the question is actually answerable...though I would like to believe in choosing my own destiny.

You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice
You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill
I will choose a path that's clear, I will choose freewill

Free will comes into mind with competency to make autonomous choices, limited as those might be. Fate encompasses more than death, but life, also. Destiny is a supposed endpoint a figure is meant to achieve, as is Fate, as the two overlap somewhat.

I remember a Game Grumps episode where they had a pretty good argument in favor of fate. I think it was from their Katamari Damacy play-through.

It was a while ago, but I think it went something like this:
If you rewound time and didn't keep any of your new memories and were presented with exactly the same situations, you would react exactly the same way and live exactly the same life.

We are beasts that respond to stimuli according to our conditioning like any other. We just call it making a choice. It was decided whether we would go left, go right or turn back at the fork in the road long before we got there.

Thinking about destiny always gets me depressed, because it's sad to think that your life is already decided for you. I'm going to say that our destiny is left up to us by the choices we make. What kind of art do you do?

I really don't have a specific type of art. I am able to do landscapes, humans, animals, anime, and still lives. Although I'm not that good.

Oh okay I was just curious. I'm sure you'll get better with practice. You could do a lot of cool drawings with destiny as the theme.
