Aren't we talking about the sport which is plagued with hooliganism (up to and including street violence and invasions of the pitch by the crowd), and which is headed up by an institution which has been known to not only muscle host nations into altering their domestic legislation to suit sponsors' demands, but also just recently entered into a horrendously embarrassing scandal surrounding its' upper echelons' bribe taking and money laundering which ultimately lead to resignations at the pinnacle?

I'm sympathetic to the idea that good sportsmanship ought to be the rule, and that differences of all sorts should be put aside for the love of the game. That is not and has never been, however, the reality of the matter. And I have sincerest doubts it ever will be.

Point well made. Not every football fan and sponsor etc etc is going to have the same view of it not mattering, as much as it is ideal. If only kapulya is how every fan is. Though I do believe he is right about the majority, but it's always going to be the minority that are the issue with matters like these.

Blue is referring to the whole FIFA scandal ruckus, not everything is as it should be within sports as much as it ought to be.

Methinks he was talking to you, actually. And oh, no! You quoted me before I fixed my typographical errors. That unnecessary apostrophe haunts me!

Oops!

Your diction and verbiage is better than you give yourself credit for though, lol

Umm, PrinceJudar is correct. The whole point of this discussion from my viewpoint was that nobody cares what sexuality/race/religion anybody is, in sports its all about who you support... You've possibly misinterpreted what I meant, which in its own sad little way indites precisely what I've been trying to get across...

If nobody cared though, then why, as I said before, would you, or people who likes sports, have a problem with that?
I see no reason for players to not ever mention their sexuality/race/religion or w/e. And it's not like they're "putting it all up in your face" either, especially when playing the game.
I find it very pitiful you'd get upset by something like this or see that as a problem tbh :/

It's not that they do, generally. Though I don't know what the channels are for official support groups and whatnot and what it involves, the reasoning could be something utterly different.

It's not that gay folk can't go to a football game and be obviously gay or group together and get rainbow banners lol. He's saying it shouldn't matter this much because they don't have to prove anything to football fans already as they're generally accepted. It's not a 'i hate gay people and don't want to see them being gay' and more 'bro what you doin' over there? Just come over here drink beer and watch the damn game with us'.

Don't take what he's saying as homophobic, when it's quite obviously the opposite. He's saying they have nothing to prove, which is a good thing to hear.

Not what I was saying.

I just see no reason whatsoever to object to it. What's wrong with mentioning you're gay to your audience? Like, what harsh penalty is there if someone says they're gay? (Besides they themselves possibly being hated by some people for it?)

It's not "segregating" or w/e bullshit. It's simply them talking about themselves, representing themselves, not the fucking team or the sport itself??

You say you support the player, yet you have a problem with their decision to tell their fans/audience they're gay...you have a problem with them talking about themselves....ok...

Then what is he saying?

Why does it matter anyway if they decided to wave around the gay pride flag when they enter?
What's that gonna do to his game?
And how is that segregation?

What's gonna happen to the game if they mention they're gay/wave around the gay pride flag?
Seriously???
Complaints like that are pretty dumb.

He is saying he doesn't see any difference between normal fans and gay fans and they're all just fans no matter what they're wearing, what they believe in or what they're sexuality is. He's saying he doesn't understand the need they have to prove themselves when he feels they're already generally accepted as one of their own. You can call him naive, but don't accuse him of not liking gays or something.
