Your sexuality shouldn't matter if your rooting during a game no one gives a crap.
I don't go to concerts and make sure everyone knows I'm straight.

LGBT folk & it's supporters do.
It's representation.
And it matters.

Going to a concert, is not.

Can't people enjoy anything without having to drag identity politics into it?

Is this about representation or is it just like the video? I'm all for lgbt rights, but I'm not for being an obnoxious asshole.

I use the concert as an example because its an event where everyone is gathered for a mutual enjoyment of something.
No one cares if your gay straight bi trans whatever all they care about is whether you like the same team as them and if you don't well then your probably gonna get glassed. Not for being lgbt but because you don't like Manchester United.

Contrary to your beliefs, Footballers do continue to exist once the match is over. They love, hurt, bleed and fuck just like all of us. Get over it, you creating "fuss" makes me wonder how you really feel about LGBT rights. Sad when sports fans live in such denial and only come for their fix. Truly sad when you deny other humanity and in turn your own.

No its when you call people homphobes for no reason. I read the article and I sort of see a reason why they would be upset (what help do they need?) but again no one is keeping them from starting clubs so whats the problem?

Speaking for American football, when I go to a game i'm there for one thing only to watch the game. Leave all outside baggage outside. I could care less what side of the issue you're on if you interfering with others enjoyment of said events then don't be claiming discrimination when security throws you out.

This is silly. The great thing about sports is that it has nothing to do with anything other than whatever sport it is. It's just two groups of contenders putting it on the field to prove themselves. It's what makes sports great, goals are good, tactics are entertaining, it's fun to pick favorites, but at the end of the day the whole point is to see the whistle blow and see the elation and heartbreak. It should have zero to do with sexuality, race, or politics and trying to bring any of that into it to any degree except the bare minimum is stupid.

OK...

1. Plz, don't assume politics unless said person is running for office, so at most this is a social issue aimed at giving a space or public face for LGBT individuals in sports and sports culture in order to help them be and feel more accepted within the community without fear of discrimination or harm. And, since being LGBT doesn't usually give one an easily recognizable visual cue like skin color: it's needed just for awareness. If you deny them this: it could very well be like saying "You're alone, you freak" and continue on as if they don't exist.

2. Sports is so homophobic and closetedly gay something needs to be done about it. There has been real harm caused by it, so it is important. And, being outed can end a career and worse.

3. I'm sorry, but that which has a face, can be made into a brand. Individuals and the personal struggles of sports-team members and coaches and stuff drives up the ratings. This is so not about the pure love of the sport and totally between the social good, big money interests, and the opposition parties. Love, purity, essence, sanctity et all are just buzzwords for those parties trying to appeal their cases to the big money party.
