The head makes it seem more like a living thing and less like a hunk of meat, so doing this with many creatures disturbs some people, especially squeamish Americans.

Fish heads are good. I like eating the eyeballs. The cheek flesh and parts of the fish collar can also be pretty flavorful.

I wouldn't say I'm squeamish around food that seems like a living thing, I just don't feel right picking at a animals face :/

So you've never had pig on the spit? i remember once ripping its face off and eating it(part of it). More juts the skin. Places sell pig ears also.

I see...

I have decided to stay far far away from you, as you scare me with your enjoyment of tearing apart pigs faces

I not had the pleasure yet, but I have had chicken served with the head attached. It did not sit right with me for some reason. Lobster is the same, you can rotate the plate and it's still starring at you.

And I thought it was normal to serve them with the head.
At least it's normal in Peru. It would strange if your fish is not served with its head.

In Peru, if the fish in your dish doesn't include its head, it must have been taken to prepare "Caldo de pescado" (fish stock).

My dad's cooked fish with their heads on quite a few times. I don't mind it at all, but it make the rest of my family squeamish.

I basically use every part of an animal I hunt so I don't waste. Squirrel heads, Turtle heads, Bunny heads, ect.

I grew up having fishes served whole. I don't eat the head though my mother and grandmother did. I just averted my eyes from them when they did that and sighed. Lil sis would have a problem eating the fish because she complained that it was staring at her. She only ate fish if it was unrecognisable like fish fingers.

When I'm spending Christmas with a friend who's pescatarian, we have whole roast salmon. Last Christmas we went to a supermarket to get the salmon and discovered that they'd hacked up most of the whole salmon and shoved the lot, head included into the most unappetising packaging. Their were a few humongous whole salmon that wouldn't work for us. We didn't get any, instead we headed for the fishmonger who had some nice whole salmon, beautifully presented. We'd learnt from past mistakes not to get any too big because it wouldn't fit in the oven. The year we had that problem we bent the tail up to avoid cutting if off.

Are you kidding? I ate the head by itself, the eyes are actually amazing tasting also. Also try crab brains with rice mixed in, its my favorite crab based meal, its like curry.

This one. I eat this one as a whole.

But my ultimate fish that I love to eat is the mackerel scad. No matter how you cook it or serve it, it tastes good. =)

I've scaled boned and filleted a whole fish before, so I don't really care

I can't eat fish with the head still on. It can be prepared with the head still on but i can not see the head on my plate without losing my appetite.

i love full fish. i like to look at a fish in its lifeless eyes and let it know just who reigns supreme on this planet! fish cheeks are really tasty. especially tuna cheek. but thats a really big cheek and head. i use the heads from party boat discards to make broth. mostly sea bass and fluke. blues too. they are free.
fish heads fish heads rolli poli fish heads!
