Wait... people serve fish without the head?

Other than canned fish, I do not remember the last time I have seen fish served without the head.

I had it served once at a Middle Eastern restaurant and it really bothered me. Not because I feel bad about eating what was clearly a fish, but because the more it looks like a fish the more I remember the gross things it does as a ex-life form. I start thinking about what it last ate, and then inevitably if they removed the intestines or if I'm going to be eating partially digested fish poop and then there it goes. Fillet style all the way for me.

Fish heads are good. I like eating the eyeballs. The cheek flesh and parts of the fish collar can also be pretty flavorful.

I wouldn't say I'm squeamish around food that seems like a living thing, I just don't feel right picking at a animals face :/

I think that's what I mean. Not okay to pick at the face, but okay to saw through its legs and ribs and tear entire muscle groups out of place? A cooked critter is a cooked critter. I personally don't see much of a physical difference no matter what part of said critter you eat. Yet the head makes it seem less like food and more like a fellow living creature to many people.

People are more comfortable around smaller pieces rather than the whole thing. "A cow carcass is upsetting, a brisket is dinner."

I suppose people in the US don't eat organ meats as much, either. It's mostly just the muscles that are consumed in the US.

I guess you really can't sugar coat it

Maybe I am a bit squeamish about eating a once living creatures face, its strange though as I've never really felt squeamish around animal corpses, other then eating there faces

Pig ears are pretty tasty. I personally don't like meat on the bone, though. If there's bone, I automatically like it less because I have to exert more effort into eating it and staying untouched by splashes of grease.

I don't eat the head, but I can eat the fish with the head still intact. Same for pigs, although I've eaten the ear.

Serving fish with head is uncommon? It's uncommon to me ordering a whole fish dish without the head.

Have you ever seen whole roasted chickens, ducks, or pigs? You would be fainted if fish heads scare you.

Yeah. Most of the time. Nothing wrong with that.

Both for me!

Actually when I was a kid, my dad would take us to those fish markets where the fish are still alive and would let us pick which fish we wanted and boom! we had a fish for dinner with the head included. I don't see anything wrong with it.

That's probably the only reason I don't eat more duck. There are some good Peking duck places nearby but...those bones.
