Hard to tell is that orzo or rice, regardless I like the idea of an orzo casserole, probably more so than a rice one(which are still great).

I accept that I'm not necessarily the greatest cook/chef in the world. Feel free to criticize my beef stew and biscuits.. lol.
But, I think to blatantly state something like this is a tad disrespectful. Probably doesn't need moderation action, personally, but I would suggest rephrasing in a slightly more tactful way of stating the same thing.

I agree that was pretty rude. FlyinDumpling, if you meant that to be a little joke, use a smiley next time, please.

I'm just gonna say that in real life home-cooked food often tastes better than it looks, and it's also hard to take pretty pictures, especially if you want to eat it before it gets cold!

ExiAHesP, if you put some of that in front of me, I'd eat it. At least it's not emitting a purple fog like bad anime food does

Someone calling my cooking dog food or vomit is definitely rude, I've done cooking in high school, cooking in TAFE and worked in large kitchens, I don't appreciate what the person said, I don't believe that my cooking looks like dog food or vomit, even so I give my cooking to the dogs here and they eat it, I found it rude and didn't like the comment, probably more a part of I try to be nice on these forums and don't appreciate when someone is clearly trying to make fun of something I enjoy doing by criticising its worth and what it doesn't look like to me by insulting it, I've cooked for plenty of people, and they like my cooking, and they don't complain so naturally I'm not going to be happy when someone says it looks like vomit, vomit looks like vomit, I don't think that my cooking looks like vomit or tastes like it either

Alright, so re-capping, someone is saying my cooking looks like dog food or vomit, and this is from someone who has posted in this thread and claimed they are not a master chef, and their contribution to cooking is an avocado with a poached egg, now I know some of my photos may not be "presentable" as such, when I'm cooking for myself, I don't really bother to try and make it look that nice, I rather focus on trying to make it taste good, as you can have the most pretty looking pieces of food, more important to me is what the food can taste like, again

this person has insulted my cooking and called it dog food/vomit, so here is a recap of some food I have cooked and posted throughout this thread,

Garlic butter chicken kiev, with chilli chicken pieces around a spinach and pea rice middle

Roast potato, pumpkin and shredded pork with gravy

Tuna bake with cheese, carrot and cucumber

Fish Laksa

I made all those myself, I didn't get anyone else to make it, and I can make them look presentable, after a while of cooking for myself, I just don't bother on the same level some may, I still have tried with these to make them look presentable as such, so furthermore one may understand the dislike I have for this person for insulting my cooking and calling it vomit or dog food, as one would understand from someone who cut out the seed from an avocado and boiled eggs in some water to say that

Honestly, I don't think you necessarily need to justify yourself against such criticism. I understand it was rude and negative; however, as you stated - when cooking for yourself, there isn't much need to make it "presentable". Just like most things like curries, soups, and stews - if you post the image where it's just come out in a flat pan it isn't going to look the greatest. Put it into a bowl and all that, it'll look significantly better. Do you have to rationalize or defend your cooking? Not really.

Anyone who's cooked at home and for themselves know that not all food is going to look "presentable". You're being kind by simply posting to the thread as it is. Criticism is going to come and go but you don't have to knee-jerk to defend your cooking here. Those who have cooked anything will know that not everything will look like it's come out of a five-star restaurant when it was just made for one person or a small family. Keep on cooking, duder.
