A surprising number of people value realism in the gaming experience above most other stuff. These kinds of people won't be able to handle or enjoy an anime-based FPS. They are guys that play stuff like COD.

TBH, I don't enjoy many shooters because they all looked the same, starting from good ol' Counterstrike. I like good-looking games but I don't necessarily hold realism to be important. I mean....you're playing a game, so play a fantastic, crazy, mindblowing one.

I'm very glad Blizzard is working on Overwatch. That's the kind of shooter I will play, and an anime-style FPS game sounds right up my alley.

That's the sad reality: most people seem to be more comfortable with playing realistic-looking shooters than stylized ones. Although games like Borderlands, and TF2 are popular games in their own right, their tones are decisively western in nature. I think it's the anime "feel" that's detracting most shooter fans. At least, that's my theory.

These days, if you really want to stand out in the market, you either have to create an incredible game (e.g. Last of Us) or one that is unlike any other game out there.

It seems that my Kinja blog article has proved more popular than I originally thought. So I decided to write a follow-up to it:
