Bahamian, and we seem to only be a part of North America when the U.S needs extra votes at the United Nations. The rest of the time we get lumped in with Latin America (we were only a Spanish colony for a year, wtf?) or the Caribbean in general (functionally correct but geographically wrong as we are separated from the Caribbean sea by Cuba, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic)

What does even mean American? I think people are using a lot without any context, and in a xenophobic way. America is not even an English word. It comes from the Italian explorer Amerigo Vespucci. He demonstrated around 1500s this lands were not part of Asia or Africa. That this land was a continental mass. Later Spain called it America.

Let's look the Wiktionary entry:

American ‎(plural Americans)

1. Originally, a native or inhabitant of the British North American colonies of European descent; now, a person born in, or a citizen or inhabitant of, the United States of America. [from 17th c.]  [quotations ▼]
2.An indigenous inhabitant of the Americas; an American Indian. (Now chiefly with qualifying word.) [from 16th c.]  [quotations ▼]
3. An inhabitant of the Americas. More often this is specified as either North American, Central American or South American.
4.Every American's origin is, historically speaking, by immigration, if scientific speculation that points to a human origin in Asia and a migration to the New World over frozen Bering Strait turns out to be correct.
(uncountable, US printing, rare, dated) A size of type smaller than German, 1-point type.

Now, start counting who are not Americans...
