Personally, I like the idea of college being more accessible to everyone. Student loan debts are outrageously high, some being at 100k+ in loans. This is not to say that the method used to implement free college will be perfect. But I feel it's a start in the right direction. How do you guys feel about it?

Hillary Clinton rolled out her idea on how she thinks it should be done.

Free college could be doable as long as standards are kept high and only the best applicants accepted just like what Europe does.

I support free college, as long as students can maintain decent grades while taking classes that progress their degree.

I would also point out: 4 years of military service will pay for your college.
I got my degree after leaving the military.

I agree, keeping your grades up is the most reasonable requirement. There is already a standard GPA required to keep your financial aid. Above a 2.0 GPA I think, which is honestly not hard at all to get lol. But most 4 year colleges I think also require a 2.4 to transfer or 3.0 pending on major. So I believe the incentive is there to keep good grades up.

As long as standards are maintained I don't see a problem we are investing in the future after all. Free college for everybody though regardless of grades would be idiotic.

I believe we should lower military spending a bit, put that into college and make free college without cutting standards.

In most of Europe, University is cheap or free. Their education systems are also drastically better than the USA's. I would like to see University become cheaper or free. It would allow people to better their lives.

Restrictions would be needed though. A decent 2.5 GPA should be required with the addition you have to take classes that fit your minor/major. Possibly having 2-3 electives for an entire degree is fair.

Raise the grade requirements so students who maintain a 3.0 GPA can only get in. Slash the defense budget to help pay for it.

And while we're at it close down those for-profit schools who do nothing but scam students with their fake degrees.

Well some Majors in America already require certain GPA just to get in. Such as the one I want only requires a 2.4. Not very high, but something like Education requires a 3.0. But I wish I could just flip a switch and make some universities cheaper. Some of tuition are outrageously expensive for nothing. Not too long ago there was a high school graduate who could have gotten to any college he wanted in America. He said he chose his home state college because the others were too expensive. I feel that says a lot.

So Yea.

The big issues with cheap/free University in the USA is...
1) How will you pay for it?
2) What will be the needed requirements.
3) With the shit all government workers in the Education field get paid; how will we get good professors when everything becomes free?

I was an Engineer before I changed to Geology, I had to have a 3.0 GPA. I could also get into any University in the USA. I am currently on a full ride scholarship. Scholarships are very easy to get. If he was top 10% (which be probably way), getting them should have been a cake walk. That is something else that is annoying. No one wants to put the effort for scholarships.

The problem with that is, majors like journalism don't really require you to be a pro at math >.>

The Art institute was also slammed with an 11billion dollar lawsuit for fraud. Was nice to see the government did something about that college.

Well for you and some others here that may be easy. School has never been my strong suit. Hopefully I do much better when I move onto a 4 year. But I agree, some(meaning me and others) don't always put the effort all the time to achieve higher grades. One semester I got 4 B's, now I look back and wish I put that kind of effort into every semester when I first got into my community college. But yeah, the plan may not be perfect. But I like to think free college is a step forward.
