Not everyone gets large amounts of Pell grants, heck sometimes people don't get them at all. That's why student loans exist. Also what after CC? I'd imagine after getting an Associates Degree one might want to seek a Bachelors Degree, oh wait, now we need bigger loans! Which is how this whole thing started!

Free college for everyone is good in theory, but the main issue would be money. How would the government be able to afford to fully pay for every single citizen that wants to go to college? How would they be able to pay for more professors? Maintenance for campuses would also be more expensive with more people having access to their facilities. How can the government pay for all of this without screwing over the average tax payer? Obama's idea of "make everything free" is only damaging our economy even more than it already is.

Until we can stabilize our economy, "free" college shouldn't happen any time soon. Instead, what we can do now is try to get colleges to stop raising their tuitions to impossibly high levels. People who went to college 20 years ago would shit bricks if they saw how absurd the tuitions are nowadays. I'm surprised it's not illegal for private colleges to charge so much.

Cut the wages for Professors, abuse TA even more, and overwork the staff.

Really though, if you've ever seen money get thrown around like drunks at a strip club, you should see what kind of shit they pull at colleges.

I remember one time we rented a couple of rental places completely out of SUVs, we had almost 50 SUV sitting in our lot for two weeks so they could inflate the budget for the next year.

Nobody gets large amount on their pell grant. Most time it's good for the fee waver though.

College is usually a waste. Source: someone in it.

We take that shit so for granted, and it's become a joke.

Well aside from the Pell grant, are you with or against free college? I won't attack you for either answer, I just took the Pell grant comment as you meaning to say it's an end all problem :p I misread what you intended to imply by it :p

My biggest fear if I had to say is my degree will not help me in the end. But the same can be certainly said for many other college students, or so I like to believe. But yes, some do take it for granted. There are people at my CC who stay just long enough to get their refund checks and just stop attending classes. Now that's a real waste of money I think.

I'm against a completely free college ride.

I believe if you take the free college ride, you should have to work for the public good for x amount of years. If that's filling potholes, working at the DMV or doing something like that. I've worked in Government benefits before, and the amount of raw dipshittery that goes on can not allow me to say "free college for everybody"

Well Hillary did suggest some of those who would be getting free college would have to do community service. If that fits along the lines of what you think should be required. But either way, I respect your opinion on it.

I'd like free college given satisfactory grades. However, we need a total education reform. Let's be honest.

Wait you have to pay to go college in America? lol wtf. It's free here. And we have all sorts of courses to get people into college to. You only pay for Uni.

We owe tens of thousands for it. Each.

I went to a community college first on a Federal Pell Grant and that covered my first two years and a half. After that I was fucked. Transfer scholarships are shit. Oh 3.98 GPA? Here's $1,500 now just cover the other $6,000 for your first semester!!!!

It's no wonder we all pirate our textbooks. Ain't nobody got money for that bullshit. I'll buy my FPGA boards and shit, but fuck the textbooks.

The textbooks, yeah. I have a friend who had to pay 500$ for one Computer Science book. I don't know if that can even be justified.

Well, I think it's a great idea. We shouldn't have to pay for college.(although I need to research this some more ) But if it is done right, it sounds great.

Yeah most of mine have been in the $200-$350 range. It's ridiculous. It's worse when you don't even need the damn thing aside for homework problems.

Quit throwing around the word "free". Somebody has to pay for it.

Dude you just hit the nail on the head with that. I bought a book for my 1 credit health class, never ever used it during the semester. I couldn't believe I spent like 30-40$ on a book that was never going to be used.
