I think you guys are assuming to much behind his post... Just answer his question at face value. Adding the rest is only going to cause issues and derailment from his intended question. Obviously you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but that's not what we're talking about here.

As for an answer... My old English professor way back in my college days was someone you wouldn't expect to be an anime fan given how old school and hard ass he was. Was a pleasant surprise.

Let's be real, everyone can enjoy anime no problem but there are definitely people you would peg as looking down on this kind of stuff. Wtf are people talking about "stereotyping"? I would bet you my left nut Dwayne Johnson wouldn't watch 5 minutes of TTGL, that doesn't mean it's outside the realm of possibility for him to enjoy it, but anime most definitely has a tendency to attract certain types of people. Anime fans aren't famous for how cool they are...

Also to answer OP I know a dude who spent years training to compete in Mr. Olympia or whatever it is and then I walk in on his gunpla addiction... That was the most surprising.

Friends, few people from work, other few people i know, these are all people who if you first met or just happen to walk by them you would think they don't.

Although when i meet a person that doesnt look/seem like they watch anime, if they watch anime or not doesnt pop in my head. but i understand what you mean, its surprising but at the same time its not.
