I'm not a FSN expert, but AFAIK there are three main animes. Fate/Stay Night, Fate/Zero, and UBW. FSN and UBW are based off two paths from the VN, and Fate/Zero is based off a novel. Then the Ilya anime is a spin off. I don't remember too well but I think that's how it goes. I've only seen FSN and UBW myself. I'm sure someone else will come around soon to give a more accurate detailing of the series.

Fate Stay Night and Unlimited Blade Works are adaptations from the Fate Stay Night visual novel. Fate Stay Night(Studio Deen) is the Saber route, while Unlimited Blade works(Ufotable) is the Rin route, and be prepared for when the final route (Heaven's Feels(Ufotable)) is adapted into a movie. Also note that there is an Unlimited Blade Works movie(by Studio Deen) and the anime series made by Ufotable(would recommend this one). Those two really could be watched in any order. Fate Zero is the prequel to Fate Stay Night, so you should probably watch that first. The Prisma Illya aniem is a spinoff series set in an alternate universe, with subtitle references to things from the Main Universe. While there are other parts to the Fate franchises, most haven't been adapted in anime. If you watch those and want some more Fate, look up Carnival Phantasm.

I was watching Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade works, and i got to about 14 or 15, and switched to Fate Zero, watched all of that, and then went back to Unlimited Blade works. It seemed like the best way to go for me, because I got to know about the characters a bit, and then got to go back in time to the prequel and get to know more about how it all went down. After 14 or 15 in Unlimited Blade Works I think it was, the story started to kind of have references to the past, that were more meaningful if you watched Zero.

So i suggest a bit of the Fate stay/night unlimited, then go to zero and finish, and back to the other for best immersion.

Whichever way you go, Enjoy

You have to go FSN 2006, FSN UBW 2006, Fate/Zero, FSN 2014.

You won't regret starting this series :D.

It's really up to what you want to watch first since everyone can make an argument for what to watch first, especially when it comes to Fate/Zero and Fate/Stay Night. Zoomed in a bit I would suggest Fate/Stay Night (Deen) before Fate/Stay Night: UBW because it expands on Saber and Caster, not to mention its hard to go back to Deen's animation once you've seen ufotable's. Fate/Kaleid however is untied really to the others except maybe the first bit of the first episode of Fate/Zero (which is why I tend to like it cause less baggage attached to it on multiple fronts.)

Ofc this is all my own opinion so meh.

Honestly, I'd say to hell with either of the earlier adaptations of Fate Stay Night as they, in all honesty, are fucking terrible. The issue is that there isn't ultimately a good way to watch the original stay night arc, which is unfortunate because then a lot of sly references in Fate Zero are lost on you, so it is begrudgingly that I recommend either watching the original Stay Night from 2006 or playing the Visual Novel arc itself, skip the 2006 Unlimited Blade Works, watched the ufotable Unlimited Blade Works and then finally finish it all off with Fate Zero.

The reason I say to watch Fate Zero last is that it spoils a few things that are better left alone for you to see in either FSN or UBW. Ultimately, I think this is the best way to enjoy the fate series with as few spoilers throughout the shows as possible.

Also fuck the Prisma Iliya show. Fuck it so hard that it leaves the collective memories of the world.

The best way to get into the franchise is to read the visual novel first. Ultimately, this link will summarize everything you need to know :

I highly recommend you do NOT watch Fate/Zero until you experience all three routes in some way and that you stay away from the Studio DEEN adaptations.

Actually, the Advice,Info, Recommendations forum is the right place, but I've moved this there now so you should be all set.

If you browse back just a little in the "Advice..." forum you should find this same question asked and answered by others, so if you want additional replies, look for that thread.
