Been reading about this all day, some movie level explosion shit huh

those blasts looked so intense... I don't know how far away the nearest people were, but I happened to see some of the bodies just completely charred probably a few miles from the site.

This was already intense, can't imagine what it was like to be there in Canada during the Halifax Explosion, the biggest man-made explosion until Hiroshima lmfao. Took out like 1/5 of the city.

That's one hell of an explosion, I'm honestly surprised only 7 dead, as terrible as a single death is.

As of 6 hours ago it is at least 50 dead. And according to the live updates thing the OP posted it looks like a police officer told a reporter that the number dead is upwards of 200.

"Apple Daily, a newspaper based in Hong Kong, claims that a police officer in Tianjin told one of its reporters that at least 200 are dead, including nearly 120 individuals involved in rescue efforts."

I almost ended up working there I made it threw the first 2 interviews and was about to be flown there for in-person and live at the dorms at the port. I think the death toll is going to be a lot more assuming the Chinese government doesn't try and cover it up. they are already removing stuff posted online from what my friends told me on Chinese sites

That look kind of like High explosives to me. Maybe Nitroglycerin ? Nitroglycerin and any diluents can certainly deflagrate, i.e., burn. The explosive power of nitroglycerin derives from detonation: energy from the initial decomposition causes a strong pressure wave that detonates the surrounding fuel. This is a self-sustained shock wave that propagates through the explosive medium at some 30 times the speed of sound as a near-instantaneous pressure-induced decomposition of the fuel into a white-hot gas. Detonation of nitroglycerin generates gases that would occupy more than 1,200 times the original volume at ordinary room temperature and pressure. The heat liberated raises the temperature to about 5,000 °C (9,000 °F). This is entirely different from deflagration, which depends solely upon available fuel regardless of pressure or shock. The decomposition results in much higher ratio of energy to gas moles released compared to other explosives, making it one of the hottest detonating high explosives.

Unless I miss read. You say it was in a container area right ? Because Nitroglycerin can be use for medical use. Although I don't know if can explode once made into medical use.

You don't need nitro all you need is the right air to fuel mix and a spark. When the Atlas steel foundry went up in Tacoma that was all it took. I missed being there by ten minutes drove by heading down to the waterfront since South Tacoma way goes down towards the water. I felt the blast through the ground and heard it. Though someone had let off a bomb which is basically what happened because it had the right mix.

Don't need anything special just need folks being careless. This would be similar to the 2013 West Texas fertilizer explosion, poor safety regs and someone getting careless. Yes nitro in medical use could explode; however, they are mixed in such away to keep this from happening they use a powered to suspend and make it dissolve easily when placed under the tongue. Noble used to use nitro on cotton to treat his own heart problems.

That second blast is what is interesting.

Keep an eye on the trees to the left.

Oh and notice the three or so people in the road far up ahead, they get obliterated.

Why do explosions have to be cool, and then lead to mass, sad death? Makes me feel bad for thinking that they look cool in the first place!
