EDIT:

One last thought - It's hilarious to watch WWF/E rewrite history just because they won the Monday Night Wars. For instance, DX is not nor never will be equal to what nWo was. DX was instrumental in business for wrestling in the WWF/E; nWo was instrumental in business for wrestling in the United States. The only reason DX is even vaguely comparable is because WWF/E has brought it back so many damn times in recent years that they only get close via longevity, and even then, it basically allows them to be in the same sentence, nothing more.

Speaking of rewriting history.
I loved the whole tribute to Benoit thing shortly after being erased from the annals of the WWE. (understandable but still funny in a tragic sort of way.)

Now happening to Hulk Hogan (Somewhat understandable but how do you erase someone like that!)

I am now awaiting the time where Stephanie does the same to Vince...you know it's going to happen some day.

I watched both. Always preferred WWF/E though. Not as many has-beens or old farts.

The best thing about WCW at the time was their cruiserweights and high flyers, but they would continually just get pounded by the big-timers and veterans and never really got to shine. Then the NWO ruined it. Yep. You heard me. Ruined it. When it literally came down to the NWO vs. Sting. I was done. The problem with the WCW then is that 90% of the roster became villains. In order to have good heroes, you have to have great villains NOT more villains.

Ratings be damned, in the end WWF/E won. And what they have been managing to do since has been great. Especially with NXT. They continue to botch things up along the way, but they continue to take chances as well.

Great post! Actually, WCW did get Bret Hart (Team Canada) as well as Daveyboy Smith. One other guy from WWE that made a great name for himself in WCW was Macho man Randy Savage .

One thing though, WCW managed to make a few stars for themselves at the time that the fans took to. They took DDP from an Indy/AWA manager to a full-blown main event wrestler. The Steiner Brothers and Harlem Heat were soooo over with the fans and Scott and Booker's popularity stuck once they went solo too. Ron Simmons was wayyyyy over as the first black major league World Champ in the big leagues. Sid Vicious, Barry Windham and Lex Lugar all had the fans in their pockets. Yes many of them started in NWA but WCW majorly re-invented them all like WWF/E reinvented Mean Mark Callas into his Undertaker character.
