At one time in my life, I admit I was. The thought of dying truly terrified me. But ever since my wife died, I have come to the conclusion that I no longer care whether I live or die. I'm already dead emotionally, so physical death no longer holds any power over me. I'm not going to do anything to hasten the process, but when it comes, with what I'm going through, I will consider it a blessing. I have made my peace with the universe.

My moms views her life the same way after losing my dad with 54 years of marriage. She lives her live through us siblings does church once a week her highlight of the day is walk to mail box. I try to get her to do a club or group activity but she has zero motivation and we are going on 5 years since my dads death. She says her existence is based on habits like eating and sleeping and grocery shopping kinda sad.

Nope. To me, the death of the body is just that. The body dies, but the spirit goes on.

EDIT: To be completely honest though, yeah the thought of the ACT of dying, especially in a painful way is kind of scary. But dying itself isn't scary to me.

I don't really know... I feel like I would have to experience a near death situation before I'm able to tell. I can say that I'm a bit bothered by the fact that not much is known about it.

I do not fear the ending, but regret not knowing what will happen in the future. That Doctor Who episode where it was Time Lord tech storing everyone's memories throughout human history was really brilliant in what should be done. Copying my consciousness into a massive MMO and retaining knowledge is what makes Log Horizon and SAO so attractive to me. I fear Alzheimer more.

The general purpose of Simple Life is passing on DNA which is information. The purpose of Advanced Life consists of passing on on DNA and knowledge which is information plus experience. Instinct is hardwired experience traits like spiders creating webs, and bees and hives. I continue to try and learn things to give my life meaning, and to teach others what I know to give my life purpose.

Well, having had my general practitioner tell me when I came in for my yearly physical, "I'm surprised that you are still alive", and another doctor tell me that one day I just won't wake up (due to my physical condition), you decide to make your peace with God now, and not wait until later. You know it doesn't profit you to gain the whole world and lose your soul. Look at Howard Hughes. He was rich beyond measure and owned a lot of things. When he died he weighed 90 pounds and the FBI had to use fingerprints to identify him.

yes death is a phobia of mine.

I hope to live to see immortality happen or a way to upload our consciousness to a computer.

I fear the unknown and therefore I fear death. I see no shame in that fear, it keeps me fighting on the brink.

Exactly, reminds me of the Kuzuryūsen from Rurouni Kenshin. I'm not afraid to admit that I am afraid of dying either, I'd be lying to myself otherwise.

Not really, I only fear what is after death. Is it reincarnation, endless sleep, heaven, paradise, who knows?
