"Wherever's convenient, really.... I can't be picky." Hikari found a small cave as they walked. "Hold on a second." She walked into the cave and looked around, then came out after a few minutes. "There aren't any animals in here, so I think this cave is our best bet." It was better than a lot of other places, that was for sure. Sleeping in hollow tree stumps is not very comfortable. The floor of a cave was hard, yes, but compared to other places they could've had to sleep, it seemed surprisingly comfortable.

Ryouta nods in response; it made sense. When Hikari shows him the cave, he is not hesitant about it at all. The cave did look uncomfortable, he had to admit, but it also had an odd sense of warmth about it. He could not explain it all, not even to himself, but he found this cave to be charming in its own way. He smiles and says to Hikari, "It's perfect." His voice was filled with nothing but sincerity. He took his first steps inside. It was nearly pitch-dark, but Ryouta had no trouble seeing inside. He looked back at Hikari and asked, "Shall we find a comfy spot?"

"Yeah." Hikari stepped into the cave, waiting a minute for her eyes to adjust to the darkness. The cave was pretty open, so just about anywhere was fine. "We should probably move into the back, just to make sure we stay unseen." She walked to the back of the cave and laid down. "Well, go ahead and make yourself comfortable. Or at least as comfortable as you can get in a cave. Whenever I get uncomfortable, I just like to think about how much worse it could be." It was true, they were actually quite lucky to find an uninhabited cave they could sleep in and not have to turn to other, worse places.

Ryouta nods and follows Hikari to the back of the cave, finding sense in her logic. He found a spot that he liked and laid down, leaning against the cool cave wall, and closed his eyes. For some reason, this cold hard cave floor felt a thousand times more comfortable to him than his bed at home. He felt as if he could fall asleep at any moment like this, but he did not want to be a rude guest. He opened one eye and said quietly, "This is the most comfortable I have ever been, honestly. That must sound weird, but.....I can't explain it any better. I-I'm sorry." He smiles at Hikari, hoping that he did not offend her. What should they talk about, he wondered? Or, did Hikari want to go to bed already? It had been a long day, after all.

"Don't be sorry, I totally understand." Hikari yawned, ready to just curl up and go to sleep, but she didn't want to be rude. She'd go to sleep once Ryouta was ready to. For now, she'd just enjoy his company. She'd never been able to do anything like this before; she'd always been alone. Having someone else here was... pretty nice. She felt a bit safer, that was for sure. If an animal came in here while she was sleeping and she didn't hear it, bad things would happen. She'd been in that situation many times before....

Ryouta noticed Hikari's yawn, and the tired expression on her face. She was definitely forcing herself to stay awake for his benefit. As much as he wanted to stay up and chat with her some more, he knew that they would be to do that as much as they wanted after a good night's rest. He smiled and said, "If you want, you can go to sleep. I'll keep watch for a little while, just in case. It's the least I can do." The least I can do for being so kind to me, and for letting me stay with you. He wanted to say this out loud, but it was far too embarrassing to say. He was just glad to have a friend, a true friend. He wanted to make sure that Hikari was safe for the rest of the night, because he was certain that some bad things must have happened because she was alone. Even animals, as pure and honest as they were, could be cruel sometimes....

"Alright, thanks." Hikari curled up just like she'd seen foxes do. She knew they did it to stay warm, and it worked. She'd done this since she was a little kid. She felt especially safe with Ryouta keeping watch. In a few minutes, she was asleep, her breathing gentle and steady as she slept.

Ryouta watched Hikari curl up and fall asleep, thinking that she looked like an adorable animal cub and blushing when this thought popped into his head. He sensed her heart rate slow down and steady, and he knew that she was fast asleep almost right away. And true to his word, he kept watch over his new friend and the cave. About an hour in, with the cave filled with nothing but Hikari's gentle breathing, he sensed something else enter the cave. It was....not an animal. He slowly got to his feet to investigate. "I've got to keep Hikari safe! From everything!"

Hikari stayed fast asleep, not sensing the new presence in the cave. She was having a nice dream of a peaceful stroll in the meadow, except there weren't any dangers like there were in real life. She was completely oblivious to the world around her, still curled up in her fox-like way.

OOC: Short reply, I know, but there's not much to say when you're asleep lol OOC:

Ryouta makes his way to the entrance of the cave. It was dark, almost too dark for an ordinary person to see clearly, but for some reason he could see as if it was clear as day. There was no one there, not a human or animal. But, he had definitely sensed something! Maybe it was just his imagination? Ryouta shook his head, dismissing it as his imagination, then goes back to the back of the cave with Hikari. Still, he could no longer shake the feeling that there was something in the cave with the two of them. And whatever it was, it was not friendly. Ryouta knew that he would not be sleeping this night.

(no worries ^ ^)

The next morning, Hikari woke up and found that Ryouta was awake. "Already up?" She stood up and stretched, then walked out of the cave. "Well, I guess it's time to find some breakfast...." She had to be careful with what berries she collected; some of them were poisonous. By now she pretty much knew which ones were safe and which ones weren't, but she'd figured this out through experience. She'd gotten sick many times before from eating poisonous berries.

Before he realized it, morning had come. Ryouta had not slept at all, but he was not aware of this until he saw Hikari wake up and greet him. He smiled and said, "Mhm, I'm an early riser." He did not want her to know that he had not slept at all. He stood up and followed her out of the cave. "Breakfast? What do you normally eat?" He asked curiously as they walked together. Despite the fact that he had not slept, Ryouta was not tired in the least; in fact, he was looking forward to spending the entire day with Hikari.

"Well, I don't want to kill any of the animals, so I eat the berries that grow around here." She wouldn't bring up how this diet fared in the colder seasons- not well, in fact she didn't really like to think about it-, but it was ok in spring and summer. There were quite a few. She walked through the meadow and eventually they came to a berry bush. "Oh, these ones here are delicious!"
Posted 8/17/15
Ryouta nods and smiles, "I'm sure the animals appreciate that you don't want to kill them." He says to her. He wondered what she had to do for food when the cold season came and berries did not grow, but he was afraid to ask her. Instead he focused on the berry bush that she pointed out. A wide grin came over his face when he saw her expression light up. "Oh! They most certainly do!" He had never eaten wild berries before, and was looking forward to tasting them. Even if they were not very good, he was certain he would enjoy them more than anything he had been served at home: At home, his mother would often do terrible things to the food she served him, which often made him sick. This was the first time he was actually looking forward to breakfast!

Hikari started picking the berries, excited. It had been a while since she'd had these ones, and what luck that she got to share them with her friend! These ones were especially sweet. She picked most of the ones on the bush then gave half of what she'd picked to Ryouta. "Sorry it's not much...."
