Hiya Crunchy!

Anime and manga has always been a fan-driven industry. From fansubs to doujins to creating conventions, it has always been, and will always be, the FANS who have made anime and manga a global industry!

The ways that anime and manga bring people together is nothing short of amazing. People from different backgrounds and cultures who are able to share their love as fans (and of course, argue about what's best!) has always been one of the reasons anime and manga continue to exist, despite the efforts of those who just don't get it.

So today I'm proud to introduce Usagi Roll, a new anime podcast created by members here on Crunchy Roll!

We're all passionate about our hobby and this industry as everyone else, so much so that we couldn't keep it here on Crunchy alone. And that's why we're excited to share with everyone what, why, and how we have come to care so much for this industry, the creators of the content we enjoy, and the fans who make it all possible.

So take a trip down the rabbit hole, and join us at the Usagi Roll podcast!

Wow its weird to hear the voices of all those people. Also may be a weird suggestion but if your using audacity for editing you could cut out some of the pauses.

I was wondering why no one had posted this in Enthusiasts Corner yet. I did start listening a few days ago, and am almost finished (I listen in short bits and it's taken a while to get through that long first episode).

I'm enjoying it, but agree removal of some pauses would help the pace, but I know the technical challenge this time was cleaning up the overall sound quality and volume and making it more even for everybody, so I expect quality will improve both as recording improves and as folks get used to talking for "broadcast."

The best thing you guys can probably do would be to have everyone capture their own audio with Audacity or something. Then pop them into dropbox or whatever and edit all the raws together. Obviously some of you will have better mics than others, but that would still probably go a long way towards not sounding like a Skype conference call.

I disagree with the suggestions to go heavy handed with editing out pauses. Obviously some long pauses need to be edited here and there, but for the most part I've found that a ton of edits can actually detract from the final product to a certain extent because it no longer would sound natural, plus it often sounds really obvious when something's been edited. It's better to work on your rapport itself than to edit things to unnaturally look like your conversation is clipping along faster than it really is.

Another thing I noticed was that 5 people at once might be a little much. I was kind of having a hard time remembering who was who at certain points. 3 or 4 people at a time might be a little easier to follow. And including a girl as well can be a pretty big boon for projects like these.

I'll be looking forward to some more. It's interesting to see all these forum regulars in one place having a discussion like this!

We actually did do it this way. I think some people just need better mics and/or need to adjust mic sound levels on their PC.

Thanks for listening and the feedback.

it's nice to get some feedback from someone who actually has their own podcast already

this is actually how we do our recordings already, but yea. some people's sound quality still isn't that great because of using things like low quality mics or built-in laptop mics and whatnot. Kami actually spent about a week or so trying to get the sound cleaned up, but not even post-production can make up for a proper mic I guess.

yea, I tried to edit the first episode to make it sound more natural, but it was actually a bit of a challenge because of lack of audio for Shawn. I think the biggest issue is that people are focusing too much on the fact we're recording, or they're just not used to talking in broadcast format with an actual discussion topic. we get together frequently and talk without having an actual topic, and things usually flow much more naturally than they do during the recording sessions. I think it's something that will happen as we go on and record more, though.

Another thing I noticed was that 5 people at once might be a little much. I was kind of having a hard time remembering who was who at certain points. 3 or 4 people at a time might be a little easier to follow. And including a girl as well can be a pretty big boon for projects like these.

I agree less people would be easier to follow, but I also think more people with different views would make things more interesting. we also have a large cast that we rotate around, and 5 - 6 is actually a limit that was placed on so it's not even more confusing.

we would also love to have a female voice in the lineup, but that's not a very likely scenario.

the biggest thing that could alleviate some of the confusion would be better video editing, but I'm not used to editing videos yet, and I also don't have the best video editing software, because I'm poor and don't have any need of it outside of the podcast editing

I'll be looking forward to some more. It's interesting to see all these forum regulars in one place having a discussion like this!

I'm glad you've enjoyed it we should be getting together to record episode 2 next weekend, so look forward to that next month.

What did you think about hearing peeps voices?

I know Mega and Balzack both said it was strange / interesting putting voices to peoples' personalities they know from here. Did that seem similar or different to your experience?

i wonder if you'll need premium to listen/view it.then again... it wouldn't be surprising. I'm actually too young to own a credit card so that rules out most if not all payment for premium. If there was a way i can pay w/o cc info, that would revolutionize and mainstream Crunchyroll™ by using codes on the back of "Gift Cards"

Just a suggestion...

plz do it. it'll be another 2 years before i can get my hands on one of those magical pieces of plastic. i rly cant wait that long.

Off topic, but in the recent tounrey the tradition of launching you into the sun or having a pack of monster girls descend upon you was continued faithfully.
