probably just a mini-subtitle because I'm learning Japanese. It would be a great help since it will enhance my reading skills.

fun fact: you can get Japanese subs for a few series, but if and only if you go the non-legit route.
there are people who post transcription of certain series, but you'll need to download the series to be able to use it.

sometimes you also need to manually adjust the timing, but that's another story.
(yes, that means going non-legit will let you use subs which are unavailable for legit users)

edit: considering how long this thread existed, and how it was ignored by the staff, it's probably safe to say that it will never come to CR, which means going non-legit is the only way to get Japanese subs.

Yeah, it has been around a long time. I don't know how much CR staff members might be involved in the forums, but if they are, then I suppose it's clear this is something the company is either uninterested in or actively does not want to do. I don't see why the company hasn't implemented it, but I'm not the one making the business decisions, so I assume there is too much risk for the reward, which is a damn shame. Maybe the subs are hard-coded, and it would require a separation of subtitle tracks, and that is too much trouble. I really don't know.

I had never thought of it, but now that you mention it it would be quiet helpful for studying how to read and pronounce words for those learning japanese...
