If all anime/manga series had religious followers, which would be the craziest?

Durarara because it's already crazy

I've been a part of the fandom before there, it actually really IS whacked the hell out.

A lot of people initially dislike me because I despise Izaya for the most part tho, and i like a really hated character. I actually used my wacky backstory for the latter to get people in the fandom to show me some respect, it surprisingly worked.

I wouldn't mind committing to the church of Durararararararararararararararara (endless amount of ras)

I think you're all forgetting the Haruhi Suzumiya craze of the early 2000's.

The first thing that came to mind was Death Note. They'd demand all criminals be killed for their god, Kira.

Death note fans would be the most scary imo.

I feel like there would be a major schism within the first few years between those who treat all death as punishment by Kira; and those who think human intervention is required to carry out the will of Kira.

Most Vibrant Mythology: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (Think about it, everyone might be hiding that you're God from you)

One that gets the "Eating babies" reputation from anti-cultists: Tokyo Ghoul (When in fact they operate more like a book club/martial arts group)

The slightly creepy one that does compulsive philanthropic work: Bakemonogatari

The one that isn't even one cult, but like 800 different sects: Durarara! (no one knows what the Oriharans are up to, but they seem to be having fun)

The one most likely to actually turn its protagonist into a god : Noragami (Well at least a Daemon, if the Thelemics are right and sustained thought can create spirits)(this is excluding people like Tenjin, who already have a religion around them and have for 1100 years)

The Durarara one made my day!

On another note, if Higurashi became a religion, we'd be screwed...

What about FLCL? I can't even figure out the 6-part anime, let alone a whole religion! But I'd totally adhere to Haruko-ism...

Why thank you. I haven't seen those ones, I trust your judgement.

If we are including Manga that have terrible anime adaptations, then I would totally go for the Pandora Hearts Religion. That series has a pretty dec metaphysical set up, some nice apocalyptic themes which reaffirm the importance of human effort. Plus the holy vestments are pretty spiffy.
