Maybe not the most popular opinion:

Anyone else remember the first time Ichigo attempted (with almost comical results) to fight him? Aizen was such an awesome villain to me, but everyone seems to think he was Kubo's biggest blunder... Maybe it's because you all hate him so much, which is EXACTLY the point...

I think anime wise, Light from Death Note

Cartoon wise, Slade from Teen Titans

Then TV wise Moriarty from Sherlock

Yeah, I have to agree with your assessment. I really like almost every character in the Monogatari series, which is something very rare. Even the hardhearted Kagenui tried to help Koyomi with the Tadatsuru problem (although this is probably just because she was told to). She didn't actually do too much, since Ononoki was the one actually with Koyomi, but I like how multifaceted the characters are.

The only ones I don't really like so far are Izuko Gaen and Oshino Ougi. Gaen comes off as snobby and threatening, and Ougi is just creepy and surrounded by bad events...and you can't really tell if Ougi is a boy or a girl.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of Tadatsuru and of the vampire hunters. Episode, Dramaturgie, Guillotine Cutter. Hoping for more of Kaiki as well, and I want to see him, Oshino, and Kagenui work on something together.

I know what you mean with Gaen. She seems like she's always talking down at people, and not in the entertaining Hitagi kind of way. As for Ougi, I feel like s/he (I assumed it was a girl, myself; should I be rewatching to catch some clues that I missed to the contrary?) just kind of sidled into the story unannounced and we were all expected to go along with it. I didn't much like her(?) at first because of that whiplash, but at the same time, I can't help but wonder what her(?) deal is.

I really liked what I saw of Tadatsuru; he's an interesting guy, and I'd love for him to make another appearance - and any development that brings Oshino back into things couldn't come soon enough, as far as I'm concerned. I'd like to see something of the old club days, as that group seems like it'd have a cool dynamic.

It's really the characters that draw me to the series so much. I'm impressed at how, bizarre quirks aside, they're all so believable. It's rare to see characters get to show different sides of themselves without the disparity seeming a little jarring or forced, but Monogatari pulls it off in such an organic way. A lot of work must have gone into really nailing down their thought processes and worldviews, and it shows.

I love the wordplay/puns as well since I can read most of the katakana. Although the Japanese use Chinese characters in ways that don't make immediate sense to Chinese and Taiwanese people, they DO make sense in a really weird way if enough thought it put into interpreting them. It's not an easy-watching anime like Naruto and Bleach, so many people who are accustomed to animes like Fairy Tale think the Monogatari series is boring. I can't praise it enough. The characters are so great, the visuals are nice, the style is so unique. Even though gratuitous ecchi bothers me, I hardly notice it in the Monogatari series.

I liked Aizen as a villain. It was the last fight that pissed me off. He kept getting random broken powers out of nowhere without any good explanation. It was painful and infuriating to watch, but the rage was directed toward whoever came up with that storyline.
