I've only really ever seen it used by 4channers and middle schoolers in an insult context. Both of which are pretty synonymous anyway… when people say crap like retarded the lot of them are uneducated, don't know the meaning, or they do and they're using it in the context that means "stupid".

Technically, one definition of "retarded" just means "slow", so it's not always contextually offensive IMHO

Actually, a lot of people at my school use the word "autistic" as an insult. I keep telling them not to but people keep yelling at me for it??

So you are saying you want your kids to be born with a form of autism? Plain and simple it is bad, but ignorant people make it seem like if you are autustic, you belong on the short bus and fit in with that crowd. Blame society for making you different in schools which is the start of the prejudice.

It isn't plain and simply bad Autism is a spectrum people with it can be gifted or unable to function at all.

The statement "Autism is bad" is ignorant in itself.

Finally, someone says it. It's a brain imbalance that can be anything from minor to severe and debilitating, but it's like mental illness, it's not how humans are "supposed" to be born.

My brother has aspergers syndrome. He is very intelligent, but is at a lack when it comes to socializing. He has held a job before and is doing well for himself. As his older brother I had to defend him a lot in school. Kids would say he was "stupid" when infact he was highest ranking in his class. People with aspergers should not be looked down upon, but embraced for their different style of thinking. He has enveloped his life into video games and anime, because he says the real world is harsh and mean. I do not blame him. I just wish he could socialize more because he is lonely. Its a gift that's a curse in todays' world.

Just because someone's not mentally normal doesn't mean they should be looked down upon.

And I wholeheartedly agree with what you're saying, I was merely giving the reason.
