Post random trivia from history that you know of
Posted 8/21/15 , edited 8/21/15
I love history, so every now & then I hear of random trivia from it too that I find to be interesting. Especially if its from a ancient time.
Like...

- Many Samurai in the Edo Era were homosexual
- In the Viking Age, women often handled the finances in the family.
- In the Medieval times, a lot of people stayed inside when it was dark because they thought monsters were real at the time, & they only appeared during nightfall.
A lot of bandits/thieves/murders took advantage of that fear though.
- In Ancient Egypt, women were equal to men.
- Clowns have been around since Ancient Egypt. They were kept in Royal Courts to entertain Royal Families & Pharaohs.
- Native Americans were very advanced in Astrology.
- There was actually someone named Dracula.
He was a Prince in Transylvania. His full name was Vlad The Impaler III.
That's what he was usually known as, since his preferred method of execution among criminals was impaling them on wooden poles outside of his castle, also leaving them out there for display.

- The word Trivia, meaning "three paths", was also the Roman name of the Greek Titan/God Hecate.
- The Hawaiian Islands are believed to have been discovered and settled first by Polynesians crossing the ocean in canoes.
- Hawaii was unified into a single Kingdom in 1810 by Kamehameha, whose name Toriyama Akira used in Dragon Ball for Goku's famous attack.

Captain America was not taken seriously in the beginning. He was more like mascot/cheerleader.

His shield is composed of metal called Vibranium.

Winter soldier, formerly known as Bucky, was Captain America's side kick.

If you've played Dynasty Warriors or know about the era

-Historians aren't sure if Lady Zhurong or Diao Chan were real people
-Lady Zhurong was supposed to be the daughter of the sun god himself
-It is said that Diao Chan had a 'thing' with Lu Bu
- Diao chan is one of the 4 beauties along with Wang Zhaojun, Xi Shi and Yang Guifei meaning that there quite possibly could only be three
-Lu Bu was considered to be capable of winning entire battles by himself, he was considered the strongest and alive and wore the feathers in his hair so that they would know it was him and strike fear in the enemy hearts

Middle ages
-Leonardo was probably a schizophrenic
-In 1518 the was a plague that affected about 400 people call the Dancing Plague where a woman started dancing in the middle of the city and couldn't stop, many joined in and they couldn't control themselves and eventually killed themselves from being unable to control it(if you don't believe me google it)
-King Richard the first was probably a homosexual and actually had a relationship with his wife's brother
-It was considered fashionable to shave off your eyebrows which is why the Mona Lisa has none
-The barbers pole is actually symbolizes blood and bandages because barbers were usually also surgeons or dentists

Napoleon wasn't as short as people make/made him out to be. His height was quite average for that time. What caused this myth is believed to be British propaganda, Napoleon's nickname "the little Corporal" and the fact that members of his personal guard were higher than him (for obvious reasons).

Lmao I remember hearing about how short Napoleon was. Never would of thought it might have just been British Propaganda that created the myth tho.

Did you know he also suffered from constipation?
No wonder he seemed angry all of the time.

Btw, the Napoleon complex is part of said propaganda. Everything sounds more realistic if you add science or psychology to it.

Poor guy, but a lot of famous military figures from that time period seem angry, especially those Germans. Ah, what am I saying? Germans always look angry.

It's the reason that on most paintings and statues you see of him he has one hand inside his jacket.
Indicating he had a chronic stomach ache.
