Hunter X Hunter. So many loose threads at the end. The whole thing felt incredibly rushed and anti clamatic.

Heavens Lost Property. The manga tied things up nicely, but the final movie barely resembled it.

Anything that doesn't have an ending is, by definition, a bad ending. That covers most adaptations that end partway through whatever is being adapted, as well as anime-original shows that run out of money.

On the flip side, writing an actual ending for partially adapted works is extremely tricky. Fandoms are unlikely to accept it, especially since even small detours from original works tend to generate anger. Lucky shows, like FMA, get movies to help tie up loose ends.

NANA and Berserk stand out to me.
They're the kind of endings that makes you think something must be wrong with your DVD and it's missing some more episodes until you look it up and discover it really is the end.

I just recently watched it so I might be biased here, but I'm going to say Oreimo. It just felt like a cop-out

totally agree, my least favourite endings are unfinished ones like berserk, deadman wonderland and claymore

with that said though my least favourite endings are Gantz, Death Note, and Phantom requiem for a phantom(god that one was good but still was I couldn't sleep after i was so rattled)

Aye, but only the manga. If you try really hard you can convince yourself that it ended at the same place the anime did, making it one of the perfect manga/anime combos out there. But yeah, no 2nd half... I prefer to just think about the kids growing up cute and happy, while the 2 single parents carry on a deepening, and cutely awkward, romance to its logical and happy conclusion. Done, reality rewritten, I declare it canon.

As far as actual endings go... There are a lot of BAD ones out there, qualifying for various reasons, but frankly so many of them are bad endings to bad anime(or at least anime that are highly overrated, even by ourselves). For my least favorite ending to my ultimate favorite anime, award goes to Spice and Wolf, not because the ending didn't work or make sense in t he story, but because it obviously assumed a 3rd and 4th etc season were coming, only to leave us with what, 14-15 LN volumes of work untouched?
