Khalifa Winter

Khalifa was too nervous to finally be talking to her sire to be scared about an 80 foot creature grabbing her up off the floor of the caves. She stared at him wide-eyed as he held her up to his face. His features were truly mystical. "T-Thank you," she chocked out as she felt him touch a finger to her hair. It wouldn't burn him, not that he needed protection. It didn't burn anyone unless she commanded it to. "Yes, a job. I have heard about you, of course, and your love for your people. But I've never heard about anyone else in those stories staying with you. I would like a job here. I would like to serve you as a guard." Her bright dragon eyes held his gaze as she awaited his decision.

Pyron raised an eyebrow. "A guard?" He said. "I haven't have one of those in centuries!" At one time the tribes had closely guarded the guardians, making sure they were taken care of and protected and worshipping them like gods. They didn't really need to be protected from anything, and after Siren let her tribe live on their own the others soon followed. Pyron didn't mind either way, but he did miss seeing his people. Nyx, however, was a different story. He wasn't prone to outright outbursts like Pyron could be, however he tended to be dramatic about the ordeal and wouldn't let anyone forget about how he had once had hundreds of people worshipping him. "Of course!" He said. He didn't need a guard, but he did love company. "You said your name was Khalifa?"

"Really? I can stay here?" she asked him excitedly. "Oh, and yes, my name is Khalifa. Khalifa Winter. I've been training since I was very young, and although you don't even know me, I always felt very connected to you. You are my sire, of course, many of our tribe came from you. I just felt like my hair and the other marking I have were somehow a connection to you. Perhaps it's all in my head, but I do wish to be your guard regurdless." She smiled, relief filling her chest. She'd made it here and he seemed happy about it. Khalifa smiled brightly. "If you don't mind, I'd like to start right away!"

block align="center"]Pyron laughed. She certainly was excited. "I sired you?" He said. He usually didn't meet the children who he had sired, unless they were sacrifices that were born for that purpose. It seemed almost ritualistic that way. His grip tightened on her slightly. He wanted to hold her closer because he was quite proud, however at his current size he seemed to not realize how much strength he had in his grip. "Of course you have my blood in you! You're quite special then." He had never seen something like this in a child of his before. He began to walk back into the tunnel. "My home is down here. It is a rather long walk, though." He said,

Khalifa didn't even wince when he squeezed her. She'd trained better than that. With her arms and upper chest the only parts of her he wasn't holding, she squeezed his finger. "Yes, you sired me. My parents are quiet proud as well," she said lightly. "I gave them a bit of a scare though when I came out. You see, my hair never goes out. I was born with it like this, which made them repeatedly throw water on me." Khalifa laughed happily at the story. "Well, it won't be so long if you carry me," she pointed out from her spot in his hand. "How long has it been since one of us stayed with you, Lord Pyron?"

Pyron laughed. "Good! Fire is not meant to be calming." He smiled. "I know many are scared of me. Mainly those in the water tribe, I believe." He said. He continued walking. it was quite a way even for him, and the tunnel went darker as he went along. Eventually, he held his other hand out, making it burst into flame to light the way. Usually that startled people as benders cannot hold fire to their skin, however he was never one to be subtle in his actions. "It's been several centuries." He said. "The tribes used to live with us. They guarded us from outlanders and the dark tribe. Siren was the one to suggest they go out on their own. Irridessa followed her example, then I, and then Nyx." He explained. "I do wish people would come more often, however." He sighed. "How is the tribe?"

She marveled at his flames and appreciated them in all of their splendor. "Yours are far more beautiful than mine," she said humbly. "That long?" Khalifa asked in surprise. "I thought at least some of the people who come here must stay for a little at least." As he walked farther and farther, she could see that his living quarters were much farther down than even she had anticipated. If she were doing the trek alone, it would take her a day if she were hoofing it. "I've always wondered about that. You, out of all the guardians seem to love your people the most, so why did you let them go? And as far as I know, the tribe is doing well. Technological advances are made daily. Though we do have our ups and downs within the tribe, I believe our relations with the other tribes are stable for now. The Dark tribe though always causes problems for everyone, regardless of which tribe they come from. Then, there are the hunters, who threaten our lives or yours in exchange for the gift of fire." She rested her elbows on his finger and her head in her hands. "But it's not so bad. I love my tribe, which is why I wanted to come serve you as your guard. You're the heart of our tribe, Lord Pyron. We wouldn't be alive without you." Khalifa smiled. "I wouldn't be alive without you."

Pyron smiled. "Nonsense." He said. "I think your uniqueness makes them the most beautiful flames around." Pyron dropped down lower, the tunnel had started to go down at a sloped angle and he thought it better to slide down than to try and walk. "I let them go because I thought it would be best for them." He said, before his smile widened. "Of course they're progressing fast! They're the fire tribe after all." He laughed. "Thank you." The slope that he was sliding down ended, and he stood up again. The tunnel had started to get bright again near the end, and they now approached what appeared to be a giant's mansion, built into the rock. The glowing came from the red lava, trapped under glass made from Pyron's fire. The building itself was made of obsidian.

His complement made her flush with pride. Being praised by her sire, the guardian of their tribe was something she'd scarcely dreamed about.

When they stopped at the end of the tunnel, it had brightened and opened up to reveal a mansion carved into the face of the caves. "It's beautiful," Khalifa said, marveling at it. "It's amazing. I thought it would look more like above, like in our tribe. But this-this is gorgeous!" she proclaimed, holding fast to his finger in her excitement. Khalifa chuckled softly as she looked over the entire structure. Wriggling out of his hand, she took to the air, her wings moving to take her higher. It was an amazing sight to behold. She almost couldn't believe she was really there. Once she'd seen the whole outside, she circled back and landed softly on his shoulder. "I love it! It's a good thing I have wings. I might to be able to manage such a big building if I was on foot the whole time."

Pyron watched her fly off only to perch on his shoulder. "There's a smaller part to it, for visitors." He said. "But I usually stay in the larger part. You may go anywhere you please, however." He said. He walked up to it, opening the large doors. There was a large room, with a large stairwell near the end that spiraled before going up to the second floor, which was not visible as it was straight above them. A chandelier also hung, in front of the stairs. The entire room was more of a pyramid shape than a square shape, with the ceiling being quite tall and the walls slowly coming together the more near to the top you got. There was another room beyond the stairs, and two to the right and left. The majority of the place was black with gold linings or accents. "If you want to get up the stairs faster, I can bring you up there." He said. He knew she could fly, but it was around two flights up for Pyron and he was 80 feet tall. He was also worried if she fell she wouldn't be able to catch herself in time. "Do you want your own bedroom? You may also share one with me." He said.

Khalifa looked all around her as they walked into the pyramid-shaped mansion. "All right, I'll take riding on your shoulder to flying up these stairs." She smiled over at him as she kicked her legs back and forth, her heels lightly bumping his shoulder. "If it's not a bother, I'd like to share a room with you. It'll be easier to guard you that way and, although I don't know how you handle women who come to have your children, if you ever need me to stop out, then I will simply take a guest room in the smaller part of the mansion. Is that all right, Lord Pyron?" Khalifa asked him as they reached the landing. "I've always wondered this, but what do you eat?"

"Of course. I can bring a smaller bed in the room if you don't want to sleep right with me, although I tend not to move in my sleep." He paused. "We usually don't eat often, but I eat gemstones mainly. Sometimes people, although that is rare." He said. "Siren eats kelp in the sea forests, Irridessa lives off of sunlight and sometimes oastries, and Nyx is almost exclusively people and wine. He doesn't need to eat nearly as much as he does, though." The second floor had four doors, two on either side, with a long hallway between them. At the end of the hallway were two huge doors that lead to his room.

Khalifa thought on that for a moment. She didn't want to be crushed beneath him, but since he didn't move it seemed to be all right and being as close as possible was more convenient for her to guard him. "Well, if you don't move, I suppose sharing the same bed will be okay."

"Ohh wow, that's really interesting. I didn't know anyone could even digest gem stones." She glanced at the sets of doors as he stepped onto the second floor. "Where do the others lead?" she asked, tucking a loose, fiery, strand of hair behind her ear. "And since you and I don't really eat the same things, does this mean that I should bring ingredients from the tribe here? Do you have a kitchen? I don't know if you cook gem stones," she said, a hint of laughter in her voice.

Pyron smiled. "Good." He said, opening the door to his bedrom. The carpet was a dark red with gold furnishings, the bed a garnet color with a canopy above it. The wals were black obsidian. "I can. I also eat fish, though." He said. "I can catch some for you if you'd like. Siren lets me fish on the other side of her island." He said. He hadn't really done it in a while given that he usually just dipped his head in the water and ate anything that swam into his mouth, and, well, mermaids were a thing and Siren was quite upset when some of her subjects were discovered missing. "The others lead to spare bedrooms. I use them for the other guardians, but they don't usually come here. The kitchen is downstairs."

"Really? I guess fish can be made into many dishes, but I don't know if I can survive on just fish. If I can go back to the tribe every once and a while and get groceries, I'm sure it will work out."

Khalifa hoped off his shoulder and hovered just in front of his face. "Thank you for letting me stay, Lord Pyron." She smiled and flew closer, pressing a light kiss to his cheek. "I can also make my own clothes, but I will need material. Of course, I can also grab them when I go back to get groceries. I didn't bring them with me since I wasn't entirely sure you'd have me as a guard."
