"Ah," Eli said, still scratching the back of her head. She could usually pick up on sarcasm, but to her defense she had just woken up. She brushed herself off again and stepped back towards where she had woken up on the ground. Eli knelt down and pulled her pack out of a bush. She had taken a few things with her before she bolted out of the house.
"I guess that'll be alright for now," she said in regards to accompanying him. She slung her pack over her shoulder, standing up. It had been a while since she spoken to someone else and she knew from the stories that this wasn't perhaps the best place to be alone.

"Alright." He said quickly, walking further North. "We need to follow the river to the closest town." Though he walked with ease now, his hand was firmly placed and gripped over his arm covered in frost. Suddenly he stalled, his expression contemplating. "Cole." He snapped and looked over to her, "Cole Esryn."

Eli groaned as she followed, her legs were still sore from the awkward position she slept in but she was sure that would go away the more she moved. She simply nodded as he spoke of where they were going. It didn't really mattered to her.
She did jump however, when he suddenly introduced himself. After all, she was still a bit paranoid. "Uh." Her mouth gaped open. It had become a habit. She was never quite sure how to introduce herself. She had nothing against her full name, but it always came to her head first and she had to pause to push it back down.
"Eli," she said. "Eli Aragon since we're being formal."

A small and silent breath of relief pushed through his lips. He hadn't ever cared for names, however he wanted to assess her reaction for any familiarity. In the past months, his name seemed to become rather famous infamous.
"Eli. Good to put a name to a face." At their first encounter, Cole had deducted Eli to be female. However it seemed to rather displease them, and he decided it wasn't his place to deem them anything. Gender was only a mere concept for sexual reproduction.
"Anyways, what had you stranded, knocked out."

If anyone was out of the loop, it was Eli. Her life for the past year had been rather hectic. She didn't know many people, hadn't heard any news, and she quite liked her blissful ignorance.
"I was just sleeping for a bit," she clarified. Knocked out sounded a little more embarrassing, like she really let all caution to the wind and collapsed among rocks and roots. Which, is what she did but didn't want to admit it.
"And...I had a bit of a bad week," she said with a heavy sigh. If 'bad' was even the right word for it. "Something very...unfortunate happened in my presence and I needed to get away for a bit. And you? Unless you wander the woods on the regular."

"Nah, I'm on the run." He said blandly and looked at her from the corner of his eye. A curious look.
"Seem we have a knack for the same thing. Was it so terrible you decided to waste away, here." He let his sentence run off, his questions sounding more like statements. In this blunt and rather arrogant way of speech, it didn't matter if she really answered or not. It was one of his only forms of courtesy.

"Oh, on the run." Eli said while nodding. She tried to keep her tone even but the similarity to her own situation made her sound a bit more sarcastic than she wanted to. She shrugged her shoulders at his next comment. Arrogance didn't really bother her. Her aunt had been arrogant and she learned to just sort of become immune to it. At times it still irritated her. Not now though.
"Not so much waste away as..." Well, Eli wasn't sure what the plan had been. "I just didn't have another place to go."

"Sounds like a shitty situation." He muttered, and looked down at her little bag of possessions. "Was that knife all you had?" Cole looked almost baffled, slight irritation perking through his tensing shoulders. At least carry a proper dagger. He wanted to scold, but relinquished in the fact that he too, was empty handed and none the wiser. Glancing down, he noted that Eli was managing to keep up with him. "Any skills? Start by making some money, at least."

"It is," she said glumly. It was the shittiest and lowest her life had gotten. "Yes, the knife is all I have. I didn't exactly plan to be out here long term, or run into anyone. I didn't plan at all. It was all very sudden." So maybe she hadn't made the best decisions but she definitely didn't want to be called out for it.
"Is this an interview?"

Cole's eyes narrowed as he parted his lips and quickly sealed them with all his verbal filth. Grumbling, he tried another approach and smiled, a wry and awkward smile. "Yes. For a better plan, at the least."
Suddenly his smile changed into something genuine, his crystal eyes sparkling. Jolting forward, his legs moved him a distance towards a stream of water. Cupping his hands, he began to wash the dirt off his face and collected some into a filtering bottle.

Eli raised her eyebrow, wanting to laugh at the comical expression on his face but not wanting to get punched or worse. She wasn't going to defend herself or her terrible planning either. Eli knew more than anyone how bad she was at planning ahead. This may be as low in life as she had gotten, but it wasn't like her record was perfect either.
And then she watched him with wide eyes as he raced towards the water with all the enthusiasm as kid who'd never seen snow before. She crossed her arms.
"Haven't seen water in a while then, huh?"

Cole took quick chugs of water, drinking too hastily and sputtering, coughing into his arm. He shook his head and offered the bottle to Eli.
"No, its been a while." Expression bright, he began to soak his shirt to cool himself from the heat of the sun.
"Wish this was a lake or something, but this'll do." He grinned to himself, shaking off beads of water from his dark hair.

"I can see that," she said as she took the bottle. Her throat was quite dry, but Eli wasn't the type to complain about her personal problems to strangers she met in the middle of the woods. She was also usually particular about germs, but this wasn't 'usual' so she drank without hesitation.
"You can get sick like that. It gets cool at night." She only said that for lack of anything else to say.It was getting hot, and more than anything she wanted to wash the layer of dirt from her skin. But nothing would be worse than being practically lost, on the run, and sick.

Cole saw the slight hesitation before she drank and grinned. Running a hand through his messy hair, he soaked his fingers in the stream and flicked them at Eli. "No matter." He chuckled, "It feels nice. Tempted?"

"If I had a mother, this would be one of those times where I'd have a flashback to her telling me not to leisurely take dips in bodies of water with people I don't know very well." Or at all.
Eli however did crouch down by the bank and dip her hands in to scrub off the dirt from her arms and face. Of course, a part of her wanted her to be more cautious.
