"Well, sounds to me that you have no such memories."
Cole sat back, tired from crouching over the bank and letting himself rest his legs a bit. There was no ill intent in his words. He simply didn't feel a shred of pity, since he too had no such figure in his life. Sipping on the remaining contents of the bottle, he dipped it back in the upstream current. Staring at the water, he seemed relaxed, his pretty features at ease. "If you don't trust me, just run along."
Again, there was no ill intent or sharpness in his words. Just complete and straight forward bluntness.

She shrugged, wiping her hands off on her shirt. "I don't." But Eli wasn't upset about it either, ill intent or no she'd long gotten over the lack of parents in her childhood.
"It's not an issue of trust it's just..." Eli couldn't finish that sentence because she wasn't sure what to add. That she was still paranoid about the accidental killing? That she was starting to realize that she couldn't live safely at home anymore and that maybe she couldn't even go back there? And that she didn't quite want to leave (not yet at least) because she wasn't sure when she'd hear another person speak next? Well, that and the fact that she was just sure she'd get lost again. Eli just needed to get her bearings straight. She was usually quite used to the woods, but that was back home. Eli dumped her head into the water and when she came back up she groaned in frustration.
"It's just like I said...rough week, long night."

Cole subdued his own snicker as he raised his palm to her, gesturing she didn't need to tell him any more than her conflicted expressions.
I got it. You're in deep shit.
"You're going to get sick." He mimicked, and stood, towering over the crouching Eli. Raising his arm, he stretched his long limbs and eyed her with ironic impatience. "Good? We should keep moving."
He wasn't too keen on encountering more dark tribe members, especially on empty. Unless said members had a specific bounty, of course.
Crap, when was the last time I had a decent meal.

She cursed under her breath, shaking the water from her hair as she stood. Eli grabbed and twisted the front of her shirt to wring out the water but it still left it pretty damp. She stood, still fussing over the dampness of her shirt and the wet clumps of her hair. When Eli stopped grumbling she gestured to the sort of path they'd been walking on.
"After you."

Cole rose a brow, not sure what she expected after dunking her whole head in the water. As told, he began to continue their hike up towards the river, which flowed towards the nearest town. He began to do a mental brain storm, building a to do list and ticking off all the essentials to move on. There wasn't much on him, nothing, really. Not even equipment to set up traps.
"Ughh." He groaned into his hand, muffling the low vibration. If only he hadn't traveled through the forest at night, encountered dark tribe members, and lost his pack. A thread of filthy words strung at the tip of his tongue, however he repressed his verbal outburst. Eyes flickering towards Eli, he studied her face as if he would find an answer to his woes.

She slicked back her hair and walked behind him, trying to catch the patches of sunlight that bleed out from the treetops as if that would make her dry faster. She cursed herself for getting so hot-headed that she thought it a good idea to dunk her head into the water. Then again, the whole point was that she hadn't been thinking.
Eli tried to match his pace. The last thing she wanted to be was a burden, she'd already had her taste of that sad lot in life. She rubbed her temples, warding off another headache and mentally promised herself her life would stop being so pitiable after this. This was just a miserable episode. She'd turn her life around after this. No more accidentally killings. No more running for the hills.

"Relax." He said, and flicked the back of his cold hand against her forehead. It wasn't meant to hurt, but to catch her attention. "Whats going to get you sick isn't the water. It's all that stress in your head."
He said, extending his exaggeration by pointing towards her. This wasn't only directed towards her, but towards himself.

She groaned. "Ugh, I know I know." Although she hadn't done it to herself before, her aunt would often spend days bed ridden because she stressed herself out. Eli didn't want to become like her aunt. She put her hands in her pockets so she wouldn't fidget with them. "I'll live."

"Why does that sound like an option. Of course you'll live." He knew it was a simple saying, however those with fallen hopes of life had always perked his irritation. His will to live was sometimes the only thing that kept him going. No matter how shitty it got.
"Are you skilled with the knife?" He suddenly asked, eyeing her curiously. On their first encounter, she was quick to point it towards him.

She glanced down at her knife. "I guess you could say that." Skilled enough to know how to defend herself with it, although it was a hunting knife so she mainly used it for its purpose.

He stretched out his hand, asking if he could see the blade. However he hadn't realized what a test of fate it was.
"I was once the apprentice of a blacksmith." Cole nodded his head at the knife, further communicating that he wanted to see it.

"I see." Eli took her hand from her pocket and hovered it over the handle. She didn't have anything against him, she didn't know him well enough for that but he had to understand why she was hesitant to hand over her only weapon to a stranger. Even if he just wanted to see it. She did, however, take it from her belt and held it up to display it.
"I like to think of it as a family heirloom, but to be honest I just found it one day while snooping around."

Cole understand her hesitance, as it would be a fools move to hand their only weapon to a man they had just met. He quickly took in the curves and cut of the blade, a smirk pressing his lips. "Least its not a kitchen knife."
Soon, the rush of river currents filled the air. From trees and dirt, the scenery changed to sand, rocks, and larger rocks. The water was clear, its aqua color easing the mood with tranquility. "We're getting close."

She put it back into the loop of her belt. "Don't say the word kitchen." Eli's stomach growled as she spoke and a deep frown was set on her face. She hadn't been starving herself out here but her meals were few and far between. She wanted food, and she wanted to sleep somewhere that wasn't the ground, and above all else she wanted a proper bath. Getting wasted and perhaps losing a bit of her memory was also on her to-do list, but she still had enough dignity not to drink so early in the day.
"Good," was all she said.

After the long walk with the river currents, the two finally reached town. It was small, yet bustled with groups of travelers, foreigners, and even those of fugitives and criminals. Cole walked through the streets with recognition, as if he had read a map prior to entering town.
