"Do you come from a rich family then? Most people who don't know how to cook usually have someone else to do it for them." Her tone wasn't judgmental, merely what she'd found to be true over the years. "I happen to be an excellent cook, if I do say so myself. I had a lot of practice..." She sighed remembering all the times she had to cook for her 'family' and when she had to cook for herself when they weren't home.

"Like brothers? Honorary family?" Raven smiled. "I like the sound of that. Family by choice instead of family by blood. I hope we can become like that." Handing him his fish when it was done, she unwrapped the large leaf, steam and heavenly smells wafting up from it. Smiling at him, she said, "Dig in."

He slowly took a piece from the fish and when he tasted it, he just couldn't help the happy moan from escaping his lips. It was that good in his opinion. Better than the grilled fish he makes and even better than what a lot of people make in general. "Raven, you are an angel in the kitchen." He said as he took another piece and ate it slowly, savoring the taste.

He looked at her and nodded. "I came from such a family but as I have said, I wasn't treated well. The servants they took care of me. Whatever food they make for them, they set aside a portion for me." He looked down sadly before shaking his head in an attempt to clear those sad memories. He mustn't think of such things in the company of friends and in the sight of a good meal.

"You have to teach me a thing or two about cooking Raven. This fish is absolutely good. I can tell that whatever you cook would taste just as great as well." He said with a smile.

She smiled. "Well, I'm glad that someone finally likes it. My par- Those people," she amended, "were never quite as appreciative of my culinary skills. I'd say for a ten year old, I do pretty well." Raven laughed and ate her own fish. "An angel in the kitchen I may be. I wish to become a demon in battle." It felt good to voice her desires. She had repressed them for so long, it seemed almost like a dream.

"Your family taught you kindness, I think. Not from them, but in spite of them. Mine left me alone so often, I would have starved if I didn't learn how to cook, so it was at the top of my list of things to master once my brother was born."

"I would be happy to teach you more about cooking. You have to teach me more about becoming a hunter. That's what you're training for, right?" she asked, licking the juices from her thumb.

He nodded his head in agreement. It was a fair trade after all. "Alright, I'll help you in your training. It's only fair that I teach you something as well. When we're done with our training, you and I," He said as he looked at the sky, his eyes shining with determination and hope, "we'll be legends. People will love and fear our names. No one would ever hurt us ever again; and we will achieve our dreams for sure." Indeed, it was a future worth fighting for. They would have it all. He looked at her before a bright smile emerged from his lips. Yes, he can see it now...

After dinner, Raven laid down next to Aldaris. She turned her head to look over at him and squeezed his hand. "Thank you. Really, thank you for everything you've done for me."

When the week of survival was over, Raven helped him clean up camp. She was a little nervous about meeting his master despite the reassurances he'd given her. "And you're sure he'll take me on as a student?" Raven asked him for the tenth time.

"Don't worry Raven. As I have said, he'll be glad to have another student to pass his teachings to." He said to her as he slowly packed his things and secured his supplies. It's been a long week of survival and he was tired; but he felt a sense of accomplishment from it all. He saved a girl, who now became his friend, from danger and death. They both survived the harshness and unpredictability of the wilderness. Overall, they made the cut. Now they have to wait for a sign. A sign that would signal the end of their challenge...

She nodded, the knots in her stomach twisting tighter. When they had finished packing up and gathering all their stuff in one area, Raven asked him if he wanted to go swimming. "We don't know when the sign will come and if we sit around here waiting, I'm going to be a ball of nerves when I meet him. Please?" she asked, taking his hand and tugging him toward the beach. "You know how to swim right?" Since she had been with him, she'd been the one in the water, herding the fish, so she hadn't seen him in action.

"Of course I can swim." He said as he set his pack by a tree near the beach. He took of his shirt and pants before walking towards the water; although he left his underwear for the sake of modesty and his companion. He waded on water before submerging himself. He broke the water's surface a few paces away from the beach. He looked at Raven before waving at her to come join him.

"Well, it's not always a given." She smiled and followed him into the water still wearing all of her clothes. They were specially made in the water tribe and didn't weigh people down in the water. They also dried very quickly. It would have been a pain to keep taking her clothes off each time she was in the ocean. She might as well have gone around naked.

Raven ran at the water, hitting it as a small wave came onto the beach. She dove under the water and surfaced beside him, grinning. "I'll race you to that rock and back," she said, pointing to it a distance away. "Ready. Set. Go!" She took off swimming like a shark, cutting through the water.

OOC: Sorry for the very late reply. I was working on a research project the professors assigned to me and a few others. They kept me away for so long with only my ability to reply once. I'm deeply sorry about the inconvenience. T_T

IC: Aldaris tried to swim faster but it seems that water didn't agree with him at this race. He noticed Raven a good distance away from him; and before he reached the halfway mark, he saw her reach the rock first before rounding back to the beach. He reached the rock and rounded back towards the beach. He pumped as much energy to his arms and legs as he could but it seems it wasn't enough. Raven was at her element. She was fast and full of energy. She was like a speeding shark reaching for her prey; and that prey was known as victory.

By the time he reached the beach, she was standing triumphantly. She didn't even look that tired, in his opinion. After bringing himself out of the water, he plopped down on the sand. He was breathing deeply and his muscles ached; but the experience was extremely enjoyable. "That...was...something." That was all he managed to breathe out before taking in a big gulp of air. "You were so fast! I can't even catch up." He brought up his hand and gave her a thumbs up before grinning. "Well the victory goes to you, Water Princess. But, mark my words, I'll defeat you on the next race!" He playfully ended with a laugh.

"Thank you, thank you. You may bow now," she said teasingly. Raven smiled back at him and glanced back, toward the camp. "Should we go back? Do you want to change clothes?" Hers were already dry, so she need not worry about being wet. "I want to be ready when he gets here."

Raven took his hand and walked back with him through the woods. It had become a habit of hers. Some nights, she would have nightmares about that and would seek comfort from him in the form of a hug. They usually stayed like that the rest of the night. By now, it simply felt nice to hold his hand. Raven knew she couldn't rely on him forever, but just for now, she was glad to have a friend.

"Yeah, we should get back. I'm sure he would send out a sign by lunch time. We have a couple of hours before that time. So we can relax at the camp and prepare ourselves internally for this meeting." He said as he let Raven take the lead; but not before grabbing his clothes at the side.

They both returned to camp with a lot of time to spare. He deposited his clothes at the shelter and made fire to dry himself. He also took a couple of salted fish and stuck them on sticks. He then placed near the fire to slowly cook them. He reclined near the fire and relaxed. He wondered about his growing fondness of Raven. She was a good friend. Someone who almost share the same experiences as he had. He could tell that she has a future if she could work for it diligently. He smiled softly at the thought. When his master arrives, he'll do everything in his power to give her that future. She deserves it.

Raven went to pick some seasoning for the fish he'd left by the fire to cook. When she returned, she checked the fish and smeared the delicious paste she'd made from the herbs and berries she'd picked. "Here," Raven said, handing him one as she sat down next to him. "Aldaris, I know I've said it a lot, but I really want to thank you. Even if your master doesn't like me, though you've assured me he will, you have done so much for me. I don't think I can ever pay you back." She smiled brightly at him. "You're my first real friend and I'll never forget you."

Aldaris took the offered fish and returned the smile Raven gave him. He subtly raised his chest after hearing her words. It felt good to know he was important to someone. Someone who he considers as a good friend as well. "You don't have to pay me back for this Raven. This is your new lease in life. A new beginning, a chance to live out your life the way you want it to be." He rubbed his chin in thought before he snap his fingers. "How about this," he raised his pinky before continuing, "we make this promise to be friends no matter what. That even if we are separated, as long as we remember this promise, we can keep each other close in our hearts..."

She laughed lightly but nodded. "All right. Friends no matter what," she said, linking her finger with his. "And when we're together, we'll always have each other's backs." Raven released his pinky and went back to eating her fish thoughtfully. "I wonder what we'll be like years from now." Glancing over at him, she tried to imagine Aldaris as an adult with facial hair and a well-honed body, but she couldn't and laughed softly. "I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

As it neared the time he'd said his master would send a signal, Raven became nervous again. She tried not to think about it and pushed his acceptance to the back of her mind.
