I know not everyone gets big life lessons and changes from watching these silly cartoons, but that's not me. I got back into anime about 5 or so years ago and these 5 years have turned me into a whole different person (no not an otaku/weeb!) with anime being a very big reason as to these changes.

Have you guys had an anime change you? Not anime in general per say, but one or a few particular series that had a big impact on you.

For me at least, in the order that I watched them:

Elfen Lied - The show that got me back into anime. It made me not so douchey anymore and let me try to understand and empathize both sides of a story (basically helped me become less bias in general)

Clannad - By chance I watched it at a crucial time and it give me enough hope for me to try to get my life back
together.

Gurren Lagann - Watched this about a two months ago and it really lit a fire back in my heart. Lately I've been standing up for myself a lot more and pushing myself to doing things I wouldn't have done before. Last night at work I finally had the guts and called out four supervisors at the same time in front of everybody for treating the other workers poorly. Turns out the CEO by pure one-in-a-thousand chance coincidence was going on a surprise walk-through and saw it happen (he NEVER comes by for our shift!). He had me follow him up to his office, shook my hand, and offered me a new position as Quality Control for almost twice the pay.

Clannad - Or boy or boy it didn't leave me any life lessons but man did it make me an even more emotional person, you would of needed buckets for my tears if they all came out at once. It was also the first anime I watched completely other than Beyblade.

Oh edit here can't believe I forgot about this one but Great Teacher Onizuka also gave me some lessons about the effects of bullying and to stand up for those who are being passively aggressively bullied cliché as it may sound but at the time I only really noticed physical bullying.

To a certain degree, most of the anime I've watched have influenced me in one way or another. I can't think of any particular one, though.

Edit: Angel Sanctuary and Yosuga no Sora have changed my view on incest.

I think 08th MS Team made me a lot more empathetic. Remembering the village massacre scene makes me consider staying calm rather than escalating confrontations more often. And shouldn't necessarily want to crucify every guy piloting a Zaku, I guess! Stuff like that.

To be fair, you should have felt that latter part after seeing Char in a Zaku during 0079 :p

To answer the question, I don't think any anime have 'changed me' per sec. There have been ones that open critical thinking paths for me, like the GITS franchise, minus the Arise series, but other than that can't say that I've been changed by any.

Clannad After Story- Changed my view on things for awhile example tough day on the job come home but kid is alive and healthy so life cant be that bad then crack a beer and smile. I used the formula for some time like a tough break or bad luck then think nothing compares to MC life this is easy glad to live another day

Anime as a whole has sparked a lot of thought within me, the two the most would have to be Clannad and Gurren Lagann as well. I hold plenty of others really close.

Kaiji Specially in the chapter he had to cross a bridge, I don't know why it affected me so much, because the only thing he said was people spend all their lives working for money and I though why should I work for money? I mean I need to eat, but there is no point in saving and saving a lot of money, in being rich, or being in debt for buying an expensive car.
What I am trying to say is that before watching that series I had my goals very clear to me, I was making a path to where I wanted to go, I had another perspective of the world around me; I wanted to be rich and to have an expensive car, I was even trying to learn about what I planned to study in college and then out of nothing this anime poped out and it pushed me away from that path. And I think that single phrase changed a big part of me.

FSN the VN: It inspired and drove me to apply myself in becoming more proactive with my meditation. It got me to try smarter and harder.

Fairy Tail: Loved it so much that when the dubs and subs ran out and started coming out once a week, and I yearned for more feels, I just decided to write my own FT-like novel so I could make my own arcs without having to wait for FT to come out. Now I'm 700 pages in lol.

Wish I could say the Key animes changed me or any of the other awesome feels animes, but idk--they were so good and so good and so good, but they didn't really change me irl.
