I believe in science, and physics dictates that energy cannot be created or destroyed. As for what happens after, who knows.

I dont believe we do. I think we enter a state thats deeper but similar to a coma.

We change for sure. Having offspring keeps portions of your DNA replicating. Teaching keeps portions of your ideas alive. Cells in your body routinely die and are replaced. Blood cells have a life span near 120 days max. Brain cells, well you only get one set, so take care of them. So what is more important to you, keeping your DNA going or what you know? As your information content changes you are not the same person so that old you does not exist anymore.

Your cells are completely replaced by every 5 years right? That's what I read. You could say you aren't the same person you were 5 years ago, literally.

There are certain exceptions to this, like the part of your skin that gets inked with tattoos, tattoos don't vanish every 5 years.

So what I understand from your perspective is that we don't technically die because there are an infinite number of universes where you're still alive, with an infinite number of universes where you're also dead or never existed. A lot like Schrodinger's cat paradox right?

If the infinite multiverse theory is true, then that would be the case. If you died in this universe right now then the theory would mean in one of the other infinite universes you're perfectly fine. Technically you would still exist across the entirety of the infinite parallel space-time universes even if you stopped existing in this one.

I think you actually do die, but that doesn't mean you vanish from every universe, just from your own (which is currently the only one that matters until we figure more stuff out). I also don't think that your conscience/soul/whatever would instantaneously move to a universe where you're alive.

You'd be dead, but only in an infinite number of universes. In the other infinite number of universes you'd still be alive.

Also, I don't think universes themselves split, however there can be two universes that are exactly identical until one tiny insignificant thing changes. If universes split, then time would be relatively constant across all universes relative to ours, meaning that from probability you would end up dying completely (out of old age or what-not) and no longer exist in the fabric of time.

This is all completely hypothetical anyways since we have no current ways of proving any of this, but it's fun to think about!

(P.S. I love the idea of infinity)

I just want to put this out there that tattoo ink doesn't quite work that way. If I remember right the ink is injected below the layer of skin cells that produce your actual skin, and it's not digested by extracellular enzymes (although it does degrade over time if I remember correctly, as well as leak across your under-skin). So basically the ink isn't pushed out with your skin, it just sits next to subcutaneous cells and kinda chills almost permanently.

well thats taking on many assumptions (parallel universe, quantum suicide, etc.) and one of the reasons that you're even able to think about this is obviously because of your brain. no one knows exactly what happens when you die but its clear that all of your organs shut down and collapse (including your brain) so whether consciousness is material and transferable is the real question. Your consciousness only exists because of your brain and i personally don't think its something material (aka i don't believe in the idea of everyone possessing a "soul") but ofc theres no way to be sure about any of this. I find the idea of parallel universes very interesting but in context of that, it would only make sense if each version of yourself from different universes had a different (but somewhat similar) conscious. Parallel universes are different from each other meaning that the version of you along with events that take place from each one also differs (even if just slightly) so theres no way the consciousness of all yous could be the same or connected in any way (due to vast distance of universes). According to the big bang and evolution of life the space dust had elements which eventually over billions of years led to the formation of organic bacteria (with help from solar energy ofc) which eventually over many many years led to the creation of humans (dont hold me on this, i may be wrong since i learned about the scientific explanations about the creation of the world and universe a while ago). This space dust was drawn to each other (could be due to various other theories though like how our universe is constantly falling as well) over time forming clouds of dust and gas which collapses on itself, accretion took place, material was processed and gravity collapsed on itself to produce the perfect sphere shape of Earth, etc etc (i dont remember all the planet forming steps exactly but you get the gist of it). This is totally off topic but it could be possible that you are drawn to certain people of objects because you may possess similar unknown matter elements (or elements that are still unknown to us due to current tech). I got wayy off topic so sorry about that but yeah in short, when we die, i think we actually do die (i dont believe in afterlife). There is nothing after and you cant even physically think about it since you're brain shuts down soo... idk thats just my opinion though based on the fact that you're only thinking this and your consciousness only exists because of your brain. But then again i am not a physicist (im more of an environmental scientist who enjoys physics) so im probably completely wrong about this all.

Really great thread btw!
