Biggest threat to world peace what a load. Stop drinking the anti american koolaid. Many other nations don't give a damn about world peace and if they had the power we do the world world would be much worse off. I would advise you to travel overseas if you do that I think your opinion of the US will improve.

Is this a joke? I have traveled and even lived in countries that aren't called America and frankly they are better than America. The US needs to stop poking its head where it doesn't belong. Put the rifle down and instead focus on fixing your shit like this mess before you go around touting about being the best of everyone's interests.

I think the world would be much more dangerous without the US military hegemony. You are of course free to believe that drum circles and socialism will somehow solve global conflict.

I would rather use diplomacy than doing dumb military interventions that results in more Iraqs.

Let me ask you this how well did diplomacy work with Adolf Hitler?

Tell me how Hitler was able to get into power in the first place? War. War always leads to more wars.

No your diplomacy appeased him until it was obvious talking wasn't going to work. War is horrible but the threat of war can keep the peace that is why Europe relies on the US for the bulk of its defense. Our military hegemony is mostly begin and we at least try to respect our fellow combatants. I doubt Russia or China would do the same.

No, had Austria and Serbia used diplomacy instead of Austria declaring outright war Hitler would've never been able to achieve anything in the future. Why is it that conservatives always have that "war is horrible but we love it" mentality. Scale back your military power if you want Europe to get off their asses and do something. Oh wait you can't because you continue to blow military contractors.

Second verse, same as the first.

It [a tuition free tertiary education programme] is an excellent way to distribute risk and confer stability upon the effort of funding tertiary education, but you can't just carbon copy the systems used in places like Denmark or Finland and expect to be successful. The US would need to manage something of that sort at the state level and use the federal government as a source of supplementary funding for state level budget shortfalls. There would need to be entry standards for a tuition free programme and landmarks for its completion. State and federal governments would have to negotiate vigorously with boards of trustees to keep tuition and fees for programmes to be provided subsidy at reasonable rates.

The US can obviously afford to educate its students. It has managed to find enough money to maintain a constant state of war for more than a decade, so there are no excuses for not being able to find the money. But this has to be done intelligently, or it will just be a gigantic waste of effort.

If you were in charge of our foreign policy our world would be overrun with random spheres of influence by dictators. Your diplomacy only works in countries that play by the rules.

No, that's a doomsday scenario that you've somehow managed to create in your head. Scale down the military and leave it to the UN.

Jesus the UN are you nuts? The UN has a terrible record of peacekeeping operations worldwide. They stood there and did nothing when the Rwandan genocide was occurring. Giving that organization more power would be a recipe for disaster. Corrupt nations sit on the UN security council for godsakes.

The US is corrupt as hell and it's also sitting on the council. I assume you would rather want more than 600 bases around the world and a bloated military to keep the illusion of feeling "safe". Paranoia is a hell of a drug. We should end this argument because at this point it's completely off-topic.

You gotta take into consideration of how our culture urges high school students, who may have never been fit to be scholars, to go to college when they never had the motivation nor work ethic for the environment. College is a privilege, not an entitlement. With these financial aid programs, now you have low-end students with no rights to being in college earning Mickey Mouse degrees only to fund universities that collect on student financial debt, and those same students who don't have practical degrees are struggling to find the jobs of which their colleges have promised to be guaranteed. With that, more and more people are graduating with degrees and saturating the post-grad workforce, thus devaluing the bachelor's degree, and encouraging grads to return to college to get another degree and to once more feed the machine. Economy and the outsource of labor is a factor, but that is another rant. *gasp*

Well, seeing my tax dollars at work in this thread has pretty much wonder why we even have public education in the first place.

I am one of the fools that pays his monthly student loan.

Then again I went to college knowing the degree and field of work I wanted to go into prior to entry. I also knew that field of work payed well before picking it.

Planning helps.
