This is one weird thread. I won't spend a lot of time explaining that the question does not make sense, since there is no theme that is necessary in an anime story.

If you dislike anime that have incest, then just don't watch those. 95%+ of anime don't have anything of the sort, so you still have plenty of great anime to watch.

Even if you were annoyed by fan service, which is much more common than incest you would still have a large selection of anime to watch that don't go there (though admittedly, not as large as the ones that do not have incest)

Not sure if the OP is a troll or not, the jury is still out.

Troll. From the original question.

I am sure that the person is going to take the posts that were mocking them and use that as proof that there is a "pro-incest" bias in anime. Been watching anime for the last fifteen years and still have not watched a series that used that as a plot.

There actually quiet a few series who do have it as a main story plot.

There isn't enough incest, but we definitely need more yuri incest.

Heh, shows how big the anime world is.

I never ran into any myself, but I tend to go for the cheerful, slice of life type or the Lovecraftian type anime myself.

On vampire Knights pure blood vampire males marry their sister...which is weird however breeding with a normal vampire wouldn't create more pure bloods with great power. It is disturbing how brothers and sisters in anime have a too close relationship...but what the heck watch it anyway

That's not even remotely true. Incest happens in more places than just the South. In fact, the few states that legally allow incestous relationships, are all in the north.

Yeah, I couldn't understand that poem.

To answer the header, though, the reason we had the second half of the first Sword Art Online arc was because of our old friend, Japanese Teen-Male Gynophobia.
The idea that most Japanese boys of high school age have been brought up separately to be afraid of girls, but those who happen to have little sisters prefer the fantasized idea of a cute younger girl who knows you already, has worshipped you from afar since childhood, and who you don't actually have to ask to be your full-time live-in significant other. Takes all the scary parts out of it.

Boku wa Imōto ni Koi o Suru. Or I Love My Younger Sister. Is really good. Is a movie adaption of a manga. Is 50 minutes long. The manga has 10 volumes. Is about fraternal twins. There sex if I remember correctly.

Yosuga no Sora. The anime treat it self like a visual novel. After a certain point in the anime. The main character get intimate with one the girls. Only to reset the story before that happens and show him with another girl. And one those girls is his twin sister. He has sex with all the girls in including his sister. Also all the girls and him with his sister have a sad or tragic past. And is in my personal opinion that both of these anime are realistic in everything.

I not telling you to watch it but be prepare to cry a lot. Also a lot of anime that do go with the incest has the main plot and main character ends with his sister. Tend to be twins for some reason.

But outside of anime. In manga and hentai, including visual novels. There a lot of incest being the main plot or the main character ending with the sister or sibling. That have serious story lines. The reason you don't see this a lot in anime is because anime companies will be force to have it age restricted by cables companies. No to mention it harder to adapt than other genres of anime. Because sex tend to be important and removing it. Will make development useless or wouldn't work otherwise.

If so, then it is the "one of these things is not like the others" of the bunch.

Hey, didn't Kotori already explain? Real siblings can't even get married, so she's got one up on all of them... As long as we ignore the Oreimo ending of season 2, and the fact that Riko and Ako are Keita's step siblings... and that Suguha and Kirito are cousins... Hmm...
