I'm obviously not fed up enough to stop watching however I still think it's worth discussing. Not killing off characters isn't really a trope, I'm fine with anime not killing off characters however there's a good and a bad way handling it and in my opinion Fairy Tail does it in the worst way.

Whats the good way to do it?

I remember earlier arcs in one piece where characters surviving after getting hit by 1 million volt electricity or by a bomb that can destroy the whole city. Though now they started killing characters in the show.

As for Fairt tail, it sucks in my opinion.

Just don't have all the build up if you're not going to kill the character, the fakeouts would work 100x better if they at least followed through once, but like I said I now find it laughable when they try to get me to believe a character is going to die.

The thing about One Piece is it's obvious when the characters didn't die because they wouldn't have so much build up. With Fairy Tail they have a ton of build up only for the characters to survive.

Don't bother with all the emotional speeches and flashbacks unless you're really prepared to kill the characters, an occasional fake out is okay, but when you do it so many times without following through it loses weight.

Yea I suppose but I usually figure that unless its one of the supporting characters they usually won't die. The dragon slayers are too important to kill off, Lucy is too important to kill off, anyone else is hit or miss.

That just how Fairy Tale is. I really dislike it myself since they are trying to portray a serious event of people fighting each other and yet it doesn't feels as serious. The worst part for me is that every villain they defeat either realized they were wrong then turned good and at some point returns to help them.

For me, I quit Fairy Tale when Natsu pushed Gajeel away and used the exact same move he used the entire series and overpowered the combination attack of the Dark and Light dragon slayer in the tournament. After standing and just tanking hits the entire fight and he just soloed both dragon slayer like this, I just raged flipped the computer over.

I was actually pretty pleased with that outcome in terms of experience Natsu easily outclasses them both and has taken on some very powerful enemies. We never actually see the Sabretooth Dragonslayers fight anyone substantial so them getting a beat down by Natsu makes sense.

Actually the Sabretooth Dragonslayer were hyped up as very strong. Don't forget, they had time skip and after time skip magic evolve to the point where everyone from the past is basically weaker. They were also said to have killed their own dragon (not entirely true of course). My point is, they were hyped up very strong and were from the strongest guild currently. They were defeated by Natsu after he tank hit the entire episode then overpowered BOTH of their combination attack with one of the first move he ever used? It wasnt even his Lightning Fire attack, it was just his standard fire attack. If he had developed some sort of special technique to deal with it then ya sure I can understand but he just straight up out power both of them. You can argue second origin but that was pretty vague on what second origin actually does. I can not be the only one who think it sounded ridiculous.

Is call Fairy tale for a reason -_-

Is't not about killing characters. It not about being dark and the bad guys winning. It not about being realistic.

It a Fairy tale.

Also dude you and other people should stop asking for dead. I don't read the manga but do keep on with reviews. So I know why manga readers keep saying to people like you to shut the fuck up and wait for the arc to end. Killing a character doesn't equal quality or is a good series.

Also dude chill out. Is call a Fairy tale. It all it need to be. Nothing more or less. Also the author himself say he hates killing characters off. I think he did it a lot in one of his previous series and he go depression because of it. He hate doing what you are asking him to do. Anybody who into Fairy tale probably know this by now.

The "biggest" problem with Fairy Tale is too much Natsu and not enough Erza.

I agree and dropped the series quickly after "The Grand Magical Games" arc. The series just uses hype and talk to make all of its villains intimidating and powerful before Natsu and friends defeat them. Then most of the villains turn good which got very tired very quickly.

The anime is getting darker so who knows tbh. I never expect certain characters to die in anime, but look at Naruto, people we care about have died. Or even a recent anime like Charlotte (however it's spelt) you know who is dead, but deep in my heart I hope she comes back somehow.
So I'm not writing off Fairy Tail. I honestly felt tension in the episode you're talking about.

I believe that's what suspension of disbelief is used for. You know that they won't, but you can still pretend they might, for a little while.

Also, I just finished Fate/Stay Night, and towards the end had come to a belief that Tohsaka Rin would definitely survive--but she was put at significant risk towards the end--even it my understanding of tropes guiding me, i couldn't totally convince myself she'd be okay, because i wasn't sure how, and so I went with it. Even in a few instances with other characters in which you know what'll happen, sometimes you can feel suspense wondering when is it going to happen already and so on.

Apparently you didn't read the first page and if the author doesn't want to do it then he shouldn't tease it so damn much. I watch plenty of anime where characters don't die and they're are perfectly enjoyable without teasing the death of a character.
