First of all this a subject i get really heated about all the time but here is how it goes. Basically when i see cops i know they are humans and humans are flawed. So just because they are police officers people think they don't have fears and don't make mistakes even though they are HUMAN. Yet so many people hate them and i find it really unfair. Are there racist, corrupt, and evil cops out there? Of course, it's impossible to make sure every cop is a good cop and every large organization is bound to have bad seeds. The way i see it there is WAY more good that comes out from the police than bad yet there are a bunch of ungrateful punks out there. Basically the way i see it is people just hate that there is a system that keeps them in check and doesn't let them run wild. Also people want to point at any part of the government and label it as being bad so they can blame everything going bad in their life on someone or something else. So there you have it sorry for the rant and what are your opinions on this matter?

I don't hate cops. But most of them are completely assholes. Are they bad no, but most of them are assholes. Also doesn't help that they shoot first for the most retarded reasons. 500 people have been kill in the USA by cops in this year alone.

Every police in utmost every country in this planet kill lest people in decades than the USA cops does in one month.

Sure you can say most of them are good people. Doesn't make them lest of a fucking land mine. I don't hate cops but I do go of my way to avoided them like the plague. I not afraid of them but I have not desire to die too ether.

I don't hate them any more than any other person with a job. Although based on my childhood experiences in the ghetto I've got plenty of reasons to do so, but I don't. How you deal with them often times will garner a similar reaction. Fortunately for me, the ones in my area are all good people and well liked from what I can tell. Most of them are just normal guys making a living and raising a family.

I used to work as a Field Service Technician, and my territory covered mainly three states, although I was sent to others as the need arose.

Most of my experiences with the police were OK, but there were more than a few times where the cop acted like they were a member of the SS.

I could tell you of my experiences, but right now I don't have the time to tell them.

While there are probably many good police officers out there trying to do their job to the best of their ability, there are just enough bad ones out there that I find it hard to trust any of them.

I think it depends on the area. Police in my area are generally not that bad; the most they deal with is kids driving drunk, probably. But in the city nearby...they're pretty awful. They're rude and only seem to care about the power that they have. It's not that people hate the police; people resent them for the power they have and how they abuse it.

Think there was another thread a month ago but I guess thats outdated by this time?

Still I would never fully trust the police (more or less) and should you?
Some I maybe trust more, some less or would like to just drive away from into the sunset..

Assuming the sources are credible it's crazy how much more gun violence there is in the US. Anywho a lot of you guys are absolutely right about not trusting some police officers. I just think they get too much shit beacause of the bad officers and don't get the appreciation they deserve.

Lots of people just don't know what it's like hoping the next car you pull over doesn't get you shot and killed or what it feels like to chase a criminal not knowing if they're armed or not.

Most of those European countries have much different gun control laws and gun crimes rates and in several countries, officers don't even carry guns. There is a large difference in the crime and gun control/gun culture (and population structure, which is arguably more important than population size) of these countries...246 police officers have been killed on duty since 1946 (according to the BBC), whereas 121 officers were killed in 2012 in the USA (according to NLEOMF). If you choose to assume that 2012 was average (it actually seems to be below average), that would be 8228 deaths on duty since 1946, a ratio of about 1:34 per year (if I did my math correctly).

Anyways, while a priority for your own safety, even when dealing with police, should be maintained, the assumption that all police are horrible people causes more problems than it solves. Dealing with routine interactions with police by acting entitled and disrespectful is not the way to go about handling this issue...

THIS^^^

I dont see them as anything other than a government funded gang. They stroll around in there flashy cars and try to intimidate people. Imagine if a gang member could just stop you on your way to school in broad day light and drive you to his hideout to beat you to death because you looked at him weird. I'm saying this jokingly but when i see police officers It my top priority to stay as far away from them as possible. and if i'm walking down a empty street or a hallway and i see a police officer coming down towards me i turn around and take the long way, I dont want him stopping me to ask me anything.

I wonder why the police don't hire a PR firm like Exxon did or [email protected] did or IBM all these companies resurrected their image to the public my guess is lack of money to make the move but might be worth it on social media anything that young kids watch

Personally I feel more comfortable having cops near by. I been help out twice by them first when a storm knocked power out one stood outside to make sure no one tried to steal and another time when I was lost in Dallas. With every group you have bad apples and so I prefer to blame the individuals rather than condemned all officers as some people do.
