I would like to start learning Japanese characters, but the memorization process seems tricky so I was wondering if anyone had an app that they would recommend. Whenever I look into learning a new language, I like to ask for resources from someone who already knows the languages because they can better judge the material's accuracy and quality.

To be clear, I'm just looking for something to help with memorization of the characters.

UPDATE: I probably should have asked this earlier, but in what order would you recommend learning the characters in? For the most part, I think people usually start with katakana.

I have several, but mostly use Easy Kanji Plus.

Basic version is free, but Plus shows you the stroke order for every kanji.

Note though I'm too only a learner, so can't vouch there won't be any mistakes included in there. But so far it has helped me greatly when I'm on the go. If I'm at home or have access to a desktop, I prefer other online resources or just books. (One good Kanji reference to use is Denshi Jisho (jisho.org, if it seems too confusing to navigate, try classic.jisho.org)

So I looked it up, but there is no free basic version.
