Does the "Default Video Quality" setting on the website (Settings-Video Preferences) have any effect on the video quality on the Roku?

I access crunchyroll on both my computer and my Roku box. If my "Default Video Quality" setting on the website is set to 480P, does that mean that the Roku is also playing back at 480P?

In a word, no.

Currently Roku is set to provide adaptive streaming only (meaning you can't choose and it can very likely change to any possible resolutions in the middle of playing) with no possibility to override or even limit that. I see that they just released one of the other platform apps with the ability to choose resolution, so hopefully they are working on bringing that option to all of them eventually... But they probably won't tell us anything if/until they have released it.

Hi -- is it still the case now at the end of 2016 that Roku streaming devices don't allow us to adjust video playback? I am trying to use Crunchyroll on Roku to stream Iryu Team Medican Dragon (drama), and the stream stops every three seconds to buffer. It is basically unwatchable. So I thought if I could change the video setting to SD, then it would improve playback. But I can't find that option inside the settings for Crunchyroll on my Roku. I followed someone else's suggestion and went into the Roku's secret settings menu and changed the bandwidth setting from "Auto" detect to the much lower 1 Mbps setting. This does not help at all with playback of the Iryu drama. What is interesting is that I do not experience any buffering when watching Iryu via my laptop through the Crunchyroll web site. So the limiting factor is not actually the ISP service, but the Roku device and the CR app.
