Very simple post, the last animes I've watched were Ghost in the Shell, Akira and Urotsukidoji as well as about half of a series here or there (the only one I remember was Reideen, which ran on a German pay-TV station, something about a teenager boy band being turned into bird-powered super-fighters).

Currently I feel a bit overwhelmed at the selection, and I simply don't know where to start... I like some good humor, Punchline got me here, but that doesn't seem to be available yet... some perverted additions are never wrong as long as the storyline is good.

So if you have any suggestions, I'd love you forever!

If you like Ghost in the Shell, I'd highly recommand Psycho Pass.

After finishing it, you may want to check out Fate/Zero and Madoka Magica which have the same writer. Although in the latter's case, you need to be somewhat familiar with the Magical Girl genre first.

I'm going to echo the suggestion of Psycho Pass as well.

The movie just came out recently as well if you can track it down; very well done. Definitely watch the anime series first though. Like ghost in the shell it has it's fun action moments, but also the deeper themes and slower dialogue parts that really make you think about the future of advanced technology in society.

Just avoid School Days on this site at all costs, unless you like to feel emotionally disturbed for a couple days. Otherwise, do what I do, start at A in the alphabet for series by alphabet and read all the descriptions to see if any spark an interest. I have a huge queue at the moment on this site alone, even though I watched hundreds of series it just never ends. I would recommend doing the same. Just add a bunch of series to your queue and watch the first couple episodes to see if you like the story/art/sound or what ever else you judge anime on.

I've noticed that a lot of people here are giving you a list, which isn't bad, but i'll keep it sweet and simple.

You like perverted additions? Okay, here is something of that and is modern: Shimoneta, A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn’t Exist

As for humor, comedy is subjective, so I might not be able to help there. You've missed a lot, but if you keep up with the seasonal Anime and do some research on what would be called "Otaku slang definitions", then you'll be alright! If you have any questions, feel free to hit me up! Welcome back to Anime!

Oh right, Psycho Pass I heard about, really wanted to check that out, gotta check the others, Shimoneta doesn't sound bad, either does Persona 4 (seeing I love the game... didn't know there's an anime!). Gundam has definitely gained my interest, and there are a lot of other good suggestions...

Gotta go through them, thank you guys for all the suggestions! This is already at least a month of suggestions...

I will warn you, Junjou Romantica, Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi, Sakura Trick, and YuruYuri are all yaoi and yuri. Hope this helps!

personal tip: don't listen to random people's suggestions. they're generally dumb and generally just their favorite anime listed off for you. people don't know your tastes and are going to suggest all sorts of weird stuff or stuff that isn't all that quality but that they happened to like due to their own personal preferences.

if you are going to pay attention to any lists though, start by checking review scores/info online (don't just jump into it unless you don't have a life and don't mind wasting tons of time trying out various anime most of which will probably be garbage IMO), and if you really need to knock stuff off, knock off anything that isn't on a lot of people's lists. you will be getting rid of quite a few hidden gems and such, but starting off with popular anime gives you more to discuss, more to research, more to get into, and generally means there's a higher chance of it being decent quality than something really niche.

then, after getting familiar with modern hits like Attack on Titan, Kill la Kill, etc., you can use those as a basis to help define your tastes better, and find more niche but still good anime.

that's my suggestion, but I'd take it with a grain of salt too and ultimately... do what you want =P I mean, the first thing I said was "don't listen to random people's suggestions", so by listening to that suggestion, you're already breaking the rule. aaaah, mindgames!

(but really... do be careful)

Uhhhh he clearly asked for suggestions. Any suggestions. These lists are great suggestions.

Also wouldn't recommend checking scores and such to determine what anime you should watch. Most reviews and scores are based on the specific person's taste even if it is popular or mainstream. Most reviews obviously differ from people to people, and its basically just a really detailed opinion of the show.

I recommend reading the synopsis or just throwing yourself into the first episode to give it a shot. If it catches your attention, then keep on going, if it doesn't then you don't have to force yourself through it.

But what I am trying to say is don't let other's opinions deter you from watching a certain show. That person may hate it, but you might actually like it. Like School Days, everyone hates School Days, but I liked it. So have fun!

Punch Line and a lot of other anime are on Hulu if you're in the US. Not sure if you are.

Simulcast licenses can end up in a couple different places and that one got picked up by Funimation.
