Great game, what can I say... well maybe not on the game play side of things. But on the visuals story and music, they more than make up for the lacking game play.

ill give u the music part but the rest wasent really creative, its just like final fantasy 9 even most of the side quests, some parts of the story are the same too, queen falls in love with the ladys man (jansen and (forgot her name lol begins with an M) zidane and dagger) there not fro the same world immortals and same as zidane and that other boss person. there are quite alot of things that are same but also odyssey lacks special moves or anything individual, they all basicly have the same moves. the voices are actually good in it though, lol i can say that atleast XD

First off I am fairly sure that are spoilers for those of us who are only on the beginning of Disc 2.

I guess I just play so many RPGs from Japan that I can just over look the cliches that they are often times filled with. Actually I get a great deal of amusement out of these cliches. I also try and look at every game I play as its own game. The second you start comparing a game to another gamer, that you may like more, the review losses a none biased view. Plus you ruin the game for yourself. Try and think of it as it is the first game you have ever played.

Finally in a great many interviews with the director of Lost Odyssey. He revealed that he was NOT going for gameplay. He was attempting to make a visually stunning game. Which he more than succeeded in. I mean holy hell they managed to make tears appear using the UnReal Engine, that is no small feat. Plus there is the detail in the scenery and character models. When the characters talk their mouths move fairly accurately. There is very good eye tracking in this game. All the textures are very nicely applied. Interaction with the world is fairly accurate. Plus there are the various tedious little tasks that are nice additions, such as pushing boulders, or the funeral ritual.

As for the story, well if we are going to pick apart games, lets go off and find a game that came before FF-IX where the main character does not exactly remember his past. Coming from another world will be a little harder. But again this is a cliche that is in many JRPGs. I will give FF-IX credit, it was unique, the main character was not overly dark an assholish, but he was based off of a cliche. That is just part of Japanese story writing, they have a set mold of characters that they pick from when writing the story.

As for the battle system, I like it. As much as I love ultra super powered moves that are unique per character. They make the game kind of boring. I have my beefs with the system, like equipment changing. But overall I find it to be a very interesting system. Especially the Ring System, that adds a new challenge to an otherwise boring battle system.

So now that I have wasted a great deal of space on this page, I will close. You cannot expect every game to have perfect greatly creative fantastic everything. In all games where there are good parts and bad parts. You cannot expect there to ever be a perfect game. Nor can you ever expect there to be another FF-IX. Try to see the good, and not focus on the bad. Or something, anyway, that is my two cents.

what you say is 100% right, the game isnt ment for battle thats you can level up really fast in areas. the visual graphics in it are amazing een the smallest things like save points or orbs.

basicly if your looking for a game to battle on this may not be right for you, if your looking for story and graphics well it is XD even though it has 4 discs you can finish the game in about 40 hours so its not all bad

I guess I am lucky to be able to enjoy a great many games.

I noticed that by normal standards, of a 4 disc game, the game was very short. I mean I spent some time getting skills and stuff so it took me a little longer to get through the first disc but even still I don't think I took more than 15 hours to get through it. and here I had heard there was around 100 hours of gameplay.

Damn them and their hype. Not everyone takes their sweet time figuring things out.

Noooo!!!!! I wanted a reeealllly long game that wouldn't end. So whats with the four discs, is that perhaps for the loading they do every time you enter a room? But I'm glad to hear about the story. I just like a game that I can level up easy, make lots of money, and full of plenty of storyline.

The for discs is to accommodates the massive amount of data for the movies. Not to mention all the data for the character models, cities, and animations. Being pretty takes up a lot of space.
