Isn't that a really easy question to answer?

Of course respect doesn't work both ways. We're humans, not robots. Besides, would respect or any good behaviour have any value if we didn't have free will?

I'm not saying that it's good to be disrespectful, I'm just saying that it's human to err. Many people find enough purpose in merely trying to be better than they were the day before, so being imperfect must be an integral part of the human experience.

I think the real faulty thinking is that you are owed anything, so expecting someone to respect you just because you give them respect essentially takes away their autonomy. If I am nice to someone, it's because I want to be nice to them, not because I expect anything back, which makes mutual respect all the more beautiful.

Sorry for asking a difficult question. My curiosity gets the better of me.

I try to make respect work both ways but sometimes dealing with for example youth boys I need to teach them lack of respect gets my wrath of a lecture about you are starting out the wrong path you can be cool and respectful usually works after like 100th lecture I use snacks for reinforcement like animal training

depends on what's on the contract

Another factor is a person's charisma. Someone with a magnetic personality i.e. charm regardless of how superficial,, gets more mileage.

Yeah, the degree of power someone has over another. So in most cases, i don't think respect is necessarily a two-way system. Someone can respect the other more so because of their importance.

They don't respect the other when it comes to power though. They respect the position. I've had enough people suckin' my D to know how that works.

Really indeed. Forum administrator somewhere else. People respect the position and will lay in the dirt so you can cross without sullying your shoes. The second you lose that position though is the second you lose that false respect and reverence. It's a respect for position, but the person is a separate matter entirely. I've had so many fake ass people I've met for it that it became trivially easy to tell at a glance what type they were.

I'm sure that holds true for any sort of positioning.

Luckily I've made more friend than foe in my tenure than my predecessors. Well, at least in recent years.

Hmm.. you can do a lot thing with power. Someone like Bill Gates is very charitable and that's respectable.
