Simply being good at grammar does not make you a good story teller.

That is where I worry.

How many technical writers and English teachers would love to be able to tell a story

How many volumes of grammatically correct letters do I write every day as a government analyst? I tried writing stories once, reading my own work was painful. My college grammar teacher said it best: my writing was soulless and I would be better sticking to computer code.

That sucks.

Writing is all I know how to do and I'm not even that great at.

That statement seems contradictory, does it not? if you're not good, then how can writing be the only thing you can do?

Self-doubt exists in the best of writers, for self-doubt exists in everyone who attempts anything. As Edison famously spoke after several attempts to invent the lightbulb:

“I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.”

Honestly, I think you just need more confidence in yourself. It's finding the balance between desiring self-improvement and maintaining a healthy confidence in your ability that will allow you to progress steadily and improve through repeated actions and attempts.

by the way, being able to write a story that sells doesn't mean that the story itself has to be "good" or have solid characters.

People who read my work tell me that I am good but I could be better at showing not telling.

Anyone can become a writer, but it's really really painful as a profession, and the chances of being able to make a living off it are close to nil. I'd advise against it.

Relate?

You gotta relate to your audience, in terms of language, tone, characters, etc. Like Beck does.

I can't, that's why I'm a loser.

The weather is kind of crap though, for a supposed ice queen there really isn't any ice (or snow) just a grey overcast although it does come in different shades.

Oh I practice. I can never stick to one story/idea though.
