Started perusing the manga and it seemed interesting, so I'd like to learn more about it. Anybody read this series or have any information on it? Thanks.

Like most light novels these days, this was a web novel that got noticed and turned into a light novel. Unlike most of those that got noticed that have a tendency to vary widely in quality this one is.... really good. You've already got the summary but if your interested in a comparison this entire series is basically the second half of Steins;Gate, where Okabe messes around in time in order to save his friends. Unlike Okabe though, the trigger is his own death leading to many many many many gruesome death scenes. Not an understatement of any kind, the protagonist Subaru gets killed constantly to the point where fans affectionately refer to the series as 'torture porn.'

The progression of the plot and the development of the main character is very nice, albeit slow. The first arc is basically a 'perfect run' its where everybody gets to live and the world and major characters are introduced. The second arc the protagonist discovers that his ability to reset after death will reach a new 'save point' after he accomplishes a major goal, and since he has no control over this and if something irreversible happens and the 'save point' is reached it is impossible to undo, introducing consequences as well as the beginnings of the main plot. The third arc is balls to the wall insane. Pretty much all safety nets are removed and the stakes are raised. It is a really good arc and truly gives this sense of hopelessness and you truly feel the pain that the protagonist goes through.

Haven't been much further than that since that was about all I could take of machine translations..... but hopefully it was a good summary of the series without any real spoilers.

PS The villain is creepy as hell. Nothing new in terms of villains but still creepy whenever they showed up.

Thanks.

The only thing that I sort of guessed on was, eventually, he'd reach a point where he wouldn't be able to reset something traumatic that happened to him. Everything else from you is New. I need to watch Steins but I'm very interested in this.

The deaths have looked fairly...gory. One I saw his intestines we're hanging out. He was understably not excited by that propsect.

Thanks for the info.

Being transported/reincarnated into a Japanese MMO-like fantasy world is pretty much the upcoming big thing. I'm reading 6 web novels that fall under that umbrella. ;)

Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu looks very interesting, but there's hardly any English translations for the novel. If you can read Japanese, here you go: http://ncode.syosetu.com/n2267be/. The WN is still ongoing with over 400 chapters out.

Be careful if your reading the manga version. For some reason the manga version compiles one arc into one story so each arc is not grouped with the series as a whole. The manga is currently almost done with the second arc (not all of it is translated) but you have to look for it as though it were a separate series (I think they all just have different a different subtitle).

Also this isn't really a game world, definitely a fantasy world with maybe a few rpg elements (nothing like lvls or stats, mostly the type of presentation of the fantasy world) but no gamer elements here.

Just finished chapters 8 and 9 (7 was randomly skipped). Sorry to see what Subaru found out, though I sort of guessed who the new killers were.

I really want and really don't want to see an anime of this. I think it'd be cool, but I dunno how an adaptation would come off as and I'm not sure I could handle not-stills of the gruesome deaths.

LN translations dropped at 1 volume due to licensing.

Keeping up with the manga, though.

I had the unfortunate event, where I spoiled myself about the 3rd Arc. Saying that this arc is insane is gentle compared to what Subaru goes through and how this arc end. If someone is curious and want to know what happens, I recommend you to abstain yourself. I don't know if I have the heart and mental strength keep going beyond 2nd arc...
