LOL I love how ignorant people are. A Phobia is a FEAR. the only TRUE "Homophobe" is someone who is AFRAID of a Homosexual. So someone who is just disgusted by them or disagrees with their lifestyle is just a regular person. Stop labeling everyone as "homophobic" because it just shows your level of education is seriously lacking.

Language changes itself to suit the needs of the people who use it. I agree to some extent that the -phobia morpheme isn't used in precisely its normal context in this word, but it's far from the only word we use whose roots aren't a perfect literal translation of its meaning. The concept is related, so it's not a huge deal, and more importantly, your average English-speaker defines "homophobia" in the same way as it's used in this thread. If a word is commonly used to mean a certain thing, then it does mean that thing. Language's role is to cater to our communicative needs. It doesn't always evolve in the most sensible way, but it doesn't evolve for no reason, either.

This. I would love to argue that 'homophobia' is etymologically incorrect, but the fact is, it is its own word. Now, that said, it does carry certain connotations over from its roots, and I think it is inappropriate to use in most situations because of that fact. Really it is just another form of name-calling, and diverting attention from the topic at hand.

I hate happy people too. Like damn....stop being all gay in my face. It's not right, I don't wanna see it. Keep it in your own house. It shouldn't even be legal to be gay, it should be illegal to be gay. I mean these damn jovial people are ruining the dreadful dismal fabric of our country with their gayness, and I for one will not stand for it.

Gay is sin, sad is win. It was Adam hates Steve, not Adam and Eve.

Right how dare people be happy

On League of Legends, if you're a homophobe, they give you a 2-week ban (yes Rito :D).

If you're caught doing it a second time... you're banned for lyfe. Lyte-style.

What you're describing sounds like a person with a somewhat narcissistic personality which, based on my observations isn't all that rare. That and sexuality are completely seperate and should be treated as such. Would you find it reasonable if I labeled you as ignorant, unreasonable and crazy just based on your sexuality?

Everyone is free to choose what they like and don't like. I have actually met someone who is literally afraid of homosexuals, though it was on the internet. Anytime someone mentioned a homosexual phrase/person, they would begin to start getting very aggressive about the subject or defensive of themselves if the phrase was directed towards them. With all that being said, homosexual is just like heterosexual but can we stop labeling how someone loves/likes another human being? Love = Love.

Sounds like another religious nut that needs to be slapped across the face with their own Bible. BIBLE BASH!!

Seriously. Most hard-nut brainwashed religious people are the most hypocritical, most irritating people I have ever met.

(Although the live-version video had to....reassure mainstream audiences of their popularity with biological females somewhat:

And besides, "Two Tribes" was the better of their non-ejaculatory singles.)

I had a crush on this girl who I didn't know is a homophobe. One day, we were going back to class after gym and I was walking back with my friends and she was walking with her friends, too. I was behind her and she literally said, "You're not born gay. You choose to be one and that's disgusting."

My feelings for her literally ended the second she said that.

Never fall for a straight girl.

So, was it the "Disgusting" part that turned you off, or "She turned out to be one of those other people who refuse to understand that nothing that happens to me is ever my choice or responsibility, so I don't need her anymore and can stick to the safety of my own tribe, where we all know we were born special from icky old Normies?"

Otherwise, yeah, it can be a bit of a shock to find out people, gasp, might not actually like you when you tell them you're different from them, or that they don't want to join your club even as a trial member.
So, guess it's a real drag having to actually go outside of your club to accept other people on their own terms if you want to be with them, huh?...Or, is it just that you ask unconditional understanding and acceptance from everyone else, non-negotiable?

My reaction is usually scoffing at them. I then ask why they have two guys/girls going at it on their mind so much that it outrages them, and ask if they need to tell me something.

They get embarrassed, if not I start going into an explicit discussion of what I guess is on their mind till they get offended and walk off or make an absolute ass out of themselves.

Homophobia is a super shitty thing that can hurt a lot of people. The world is slowly becoming more accepting of LGB people, but transphobia runs rampant, especially here in the south.

You're free to think anything. You're not free to act on everything.

Let's say a girl is into 5-yo boys. She's free to have fantasies about them, but she's obviously not free to _____

You're free to hate X race or gays, in your mind but not irl.

Some things that we hate/like are just illegal, deal with it.

Pretty much everyone at my old church. They liked to act all holy and righteous while in church but they were different people outside. I was the same person whether I was in the building or out and they criticized me a lot even though I was there for nearly two decades, way longer than the vast majority of the members, and I've read the bible from cover to cover more times than I can remember. They were also very nosy.

I didn't really say anything to them since there's no way to convince them using worldly logic. They just go by the book and ignore everything except the alleged word of God. The word of God takes precedent over EVERYTHING else and they pretty much just simplify every issue into that.

HAHA your post remind me of an old movie name footloose, but you will need to organize something more than a dance to fix those mess .lol
